As the Alberta Summer Games get closer, more and more Medicine Hat-and-area athletes are getting the chance to qualify for the big multi-sport event.

At Canmore this past weekend, six Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club swimmers made the cut. Every one of the Marlins who attended the meet wound up on the Zone 1 team that will compete at the Games in Grande Prairie next month.

With 100 metre freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events, it was a dominant performance in all four qualifying swims for the AMAC group. Kristin Hollingworth, 12, and Berlin Mastel, 13, placed first in all four of their swims. Kaitlin Skrove won three of her four. Ashton Scholly, 13, also won three of his four while 14-year-old brothers Munro (four second-place results) and Parker Maxwell (one first and three third-place results) qualified too.

It’s an exciting summer for the Marlins, who host Southern Alberta Provincials June 15 and 16 as well.
