In their last chance to make an impression before the WHL bantam draft, five South East Athletic Club Tigers played in the Alberta Cup.

At Spruce Grove, the South team — last year’s Cup champion — beat Calgary North 9-3 in the C final Sunday. Caleb Wyrostok had two goals, Ty Moore had a goal and an assist and goalie Marek Andres made 10 saves in playing the last half of the game.

Team Central won the tournament’s final, 2-0 over Edmonton Yellow. The tournament is always heavily scouted, especially with the WHL bantam draft set for Thursday this week.

Medicine Hat’s Moore finished the weekend with four points in five games, while Wyrostok netted three goals and Brooks’ Mason Mowat two goals among the forwards who’ve played for Medicine Hat-based teams in the past. Hat defenceman Quintin Unreiner had a goal while Andres stopped 54 of the 65 shots he faced in three games, going 0-1-1.

South finished 3-1-1, also beating Northwest 4-2 in a playoff semifinal Saturday and Northeast 5-2 in a Friday round robin game. Their only loss was the opener, a 6-3 decision at the hands of Calgary South, while they also had a 5-5 tie with Edmonton Blue.
