Medicine Hat hosted the South Zone junior high school badminton championships Saturday, with the host team coming away with a banner result.

Notre Dame’s Dawgs won the 4J title for schools with at least 200 students. Their 84 combined points was led by the bantam boys singles division, where it was an all-Notre Dame final won by Staz Khazov over teammate Caleb Garrecht.

Irvine won the 3J (90-199 students) banner with 68 points, Senator Gershaw took the 2J (1-89 students) banner with 43 points while GS Lakie won the 1J title for schools with no Grade 9’s with 87 points.

Medicine Hat’s St. Mary’s might not have won a banner, but they did take home two sets of gold medals. The midget boys doubles team of Duncan Markie and Brady Ulmer won gold, as did the bantam boys doubles side of Lorcan Centeno and Lance Gaman.
