Nine men’s soccer teams got outdoors at the Methanex Bowl this past weekend for the latest installment of a long-running tournament.

The Alleycat Angels prevailed 6-2 over the Earls Phantoms Sunday in the final of the 7-a-Side Men’s Spring Classic at the Methanex Bowl. It was the 24th edition of the event, which was played in memory of Keith Sykes.

With nine teams entered, Alleycat featured plenty of names either currently or formerly on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers roster. Then again, many of the teams could boast that. Chris Tully and Forkpa Sumo each scored twice in the final while Mason Antler and Marcus Poisson rounded out the Angels’ attack. Chris Sawicki and Ryan Anstey replied for Earls.

Alleycat’s Austin Price was the tournament’s leading scorer, while Earls’ Tyler McFetridge was named top defensive player.

In the third-place game the Wild beat the Dutch Lions 3-2, Damir Omerovic scoring all three in the winning cause. Mojtab Zaher and Jhojanner Amaris had the Lions’ marks.

Parkfins doubled up the PBR Rangers 6-3 in the consolation final.
