Deegan Kinniburgh got to live out a dream on Sunday afternoon at the Flames Community Arena in Calgary.

The Medicine Hat Hounds forward scored 17 seconds into double overtime to send his teammates pouring over the bench in a 2-1 provincial peewee AA championship victory over the Springbank Rockies.

Springbank’s Aidan Larose put Medicine Hat in an early hole when he snuck a puck past Silas Currie in the opening frame, but the Hounds goaltender refused to let another one past him and his teammates rallied to the comeback victory.

After killing off three penalties through a scoreless second period, the Hounds forced their way back into the game when Gavin Smith beat Springbank goaltender Ethan Eskit halfway through the final frame to set up a sudden death finale.

The Hounds held strong defensively through the first 10-minute overtime frame, killing off a crucial penalty to Smith to line up a 20-minute fifth period, but it only took 17 seconds for Kinniburgh to put a cap on the season and crown his team as champions of Alberta.

Currie stopped 30 shots to lock up the victory for Medicine Hat. Eskit settled for the loss on 35 stops.
