Irvine’s Bulldogs claimed the Hockey Alberta peewee D title Sunday.

At Oyen, the team went unbeaten including a 5-2 win over Horse Lake in the championship game.

Tavynn Schlaht and Kellin Hodgson each had two goals while Makhi Carriere added the fifth to complete the gold medal run. Kaige Schafer made 19 saves, finishing the weekend with an impressive 2.36 goals against average.

While their record was perfect it was far from an easy road for the Bulldogs. Schlaht got the overtime winner in a 4-3 semifinal decision against the host team earlier Sunday, and they only outscored their opposition 22-12 in five games. They also beat Redwater 4-3, Spruce View 4-2 and Nanton 5-2.

Schlaht finished with 14 points, sixth in tournament scoring which was dominated by three Horse Lake players who had 30, 29 and 27 points respectively. Horse Lake played a wide-open game, outscoring their opponents 46-34.
