The Earls Phantoms got the last laugh, but there was no stopping Devo FC from taking this year’s Medicine Hat Senior Men’s Indoor Soccer League crown.

Matt Wilson scored twice to lead Earls to an 8-7 win over Devo in their final game of the season on Sunday at the Family Leisure Centre. Brendan Lutz, Ashley Evans, Troy Geurrette, Cory Holton, Dallas Neufeld and Tyler Helms all scored for the Phantoms to help them close out the year in second place at 13-5-0 while handing Devo their first and only loss of the season.

Johnny Keohane and Colten Pacheco both scored twice for Devo in the loss, which finished 16-1-1.

The Ralston Rovers took third at 11-7-0 with a 9-8 win over the Wild on Sunday. Joe McNeill and Scott Creighton each netted hat tricks in the win.

The Rattlers under-18 squad was fourth at 8-9-1 after a 5-4 win over the Phantoms Sunday.

The Rangers and Wild will close out the season with the league’s final game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. While the Rangers hold a three-point lead at 5-10-0, the Wild (4-11-2) can tie them for fifth with a win.

The game will also allow the Wild’s Damir Omerovic one last chance to pad his stats. Omerovic’s 34 goals are already league-best, with Devo’s Allan Siwela following up at 29 goals.
