They got to the post-season with all the confidence in the world, but the Medicine Hat College men’s basketball team finished its season with a whimper.

The Rattlers, already out of the mix for nationals thanks to a quarter-final loss Thursday, were beat down by the host Lethbridge Kodiaks Friday in a 108-89 loss that was never close.

A day after leading for a total of less than a minute against Lakeland, the Rattlers fell behind early and only led a total of 74 seconds in the consolation semifinal – and not at all in the second half.

The Kodiaks outrebounded the Rattlers a dramatic 43-27, and also shot the ball extremely well. They made a total of 13 three-pointers, compared to Medicine Hat’s seven.

DeAngelo Ashley had 18 points and eight rebounds for Medicine Hat, while Josh Magpantay dished out 13 assists. But three Kodiaks scored at least 20, with Grady Taylor’s 23 leading everyone.

Lethbridge moves on to the fifth-place game Saturday. Medicine Hat — ranked ninth in the country entering the weekend — winds up seventh in Alberta.
