Janick Lacroix is heading back to nationals.

The Medicine Hat Boxing Club pugilist won his fourth provincial title Sunday in Stony Plain, beating Edmonton Cougar Club’s Ethan Pasek by split decision.

Fighting in the 69 kilogram junior division, Lacroix —who’s been with the Hat club for the past year and a half —also stopped Lethbridge’s Terrance Reis in the second round of his first fight Saturday. He was also named best boxer of the provincial event.

Having got to the national final last year in Quebec, Lacroix will return this year with a few more factors on his side. Notably, nationals are in Edmonton, which is a far simpler trip. They begin March 28.

In the meantime, Lacroix will get a taste for some international competition when he goes to Regina March 16. A team from Ireland will be there according to coach Kerry Fahlman.
