In the last meet before Southern Alberta Provincials, members of the Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club showed they’re ready to swim fast when it counts the most.

In all, 16 Waves combined for 16 medals at the Pugsley’s Plunge Invitational in Calgary this past weekend. Leading the way was 13-year-old Jaiden Riddell, who won his 50 metre backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 individual medley and added silvers in 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Riddell is among seven Waves who will go to Southern Provincials later this month, also in Calgary.

Jaivyn Barabe will be there and this past weekend earned bronze medals in the girls 11-12 division —one in 50 metre breaststroke, another in the 100 breast and the third in the 100 IM. Trinity Shilka, 14, took silver in her 100 IM and is also headed to Southern Provincials.

Other medal winners this past weekend were Anna Nozewski and Quirina Thompson. Nozewski, 17, won her 50, 100 and 200 metre breaststroke events. Thompson, 15, won the 200 IM, took silver in the 50 butterfly and 200 backstroke and was third in the 100 fly.
