Women’s Rattlers get back in win column

The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s basketball team rebounded from Friday’s lopsided loss to the St. Mary’s Lightning with an 80-72 victory in Saturday’s rematch at the Snake Pit.

One day after setting a new Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference career record for rebounds, Rattlers forward Kennedy Werre tied a season-high with 21 boards and eight points in the victory. Guard Kendall Kuntz led the offence with 15 points and Morgan Muir added 14.

Sydney Deighton and Emily Wagner both logged 15 points for the Lightning.

The win puts the Rattlers at 9-3 on the ACAC season, two points back of the SAIT Trojans for the top of the South Division standings. St. Mary’s fell to 6-5 with the loss.

Men win fifth straight

The Medicine Hat Rattlers men’s basketball team strung together a fifth straight victory with a 74-65 win over the Lightning on Saturday at the Snake Pit.

Jon Sappleton led the Rattlers with 29 points while going 11-for-19 from the floor and added seven rebounds. Both Stephen Jones and DeAngelo Ashley put up 11 points.

Isaac Amsing posted 23 points for the Lightning, but it wasn’t enough to knock the Rattlers off stride.

The win puts Medicine Hat at 10-2 on the season, two point behind the SAIT Trojans for the top of the ACAC South Division. St. Mary’s dropped to 1-10.

The Rattlers basketball teams return to the Snake Pit Friday to host the Lethbridge Kodiaks.

Women’s volleyball team falls to Kodiaks

The Rattlers women’s volleyball team fell back into the loss column on Saturday at Lethbridge College.

While the Rattlers picked up a five-set win over the Kodiaks Friday at the Snake Pit, the Kodiaks bounced back with a straight sets victory Saturday in Lethbridge (25-23, 25-17, 25-15).

Rattlers outside hitter Amber Stigter had a match-high 12 kills while Brooke Christie and Kennedy Lewis dug out seven apiece.

Kristine Ward led the Kodiaks with 11 kills and Reina Hirata added 10 digs.

The setback leaves the Rattlers at 5-13 on the year, eight points back of the final playoff spot in the South Division. Lethbridge jumped to 10-6 with the win.

Men’s volleyball team drops eighth straight

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers fell back to .500 with their eighth consecutive loss Saturday night in Lethbridge.

Once 9-1 on the season, the Rattlers are now 9-9 following a four-set loss to the Kodiaks (23-25, 31-29, 25-19, 25-15) and sit tied for fourth in the South Division with 18 points.

Vitor Pereira and Joao Pedro Freire both had 11 kills in the loss while Kreggan Scharnatta added 10 digs.

Lethbridge’s Dax Whitehead kept the Rattlers guessing with 21 kills in the match, while four players managed at least 10 digs on defence.

Lethbridge improved to 11-5 with the win.

The Rattlers volleyball teams are back in action Friday at Ambrose College against the Lions.
