The U16 Medicine Hat Mission ringette team took home the gold medal over the weekend at a tournament in Sherwood Park.

The Sherwood Park Platinum Ring took place Dec. 28-30, with the Mission tallying a record of three wins against one tie, en route to top spot.

Mik Claypool started the tourney off by posting a shutout in an 11-0 rout of Hinton. The team then battled St. Albert to a 5-5 draw before turning on the afterburners once more.

The girls met the host team from Sherwood Park in their third game, piling up 10 goals in a nine-goal drubbing and advancing to the gold medal game.

Awaiting the Mission in the final was the same Hinton team they’d shellacked in the tournament opener. While the opposition was able to post three goals this time out, Sydney Carlson was still strong in net while Ashlyn Seale’s hat-trick propelled the offence to another 10-goal posting.

There was no other ringette action over the Holiday break.
