Hat boxers Schick, Deveau start careers strong

Medicine Hat News Sam Schick and Tristan Deveau are off to a hot start in the ring. The pair of Medicine Hat Boxing Club fighters took home a pair of victories from the Alberta Sub Novice boxing tournament in Cochrane last weekend in what was Schick’s first-ever bout and Deveau’s third. Schick, 12, defeated Andre Miller — out of Calgary’s Goldenstar Boxing Club — with a split-decision victory to top the Junior A 34-kilogram division. Deveau won his division as well, defeating Jaskaran Rant — out of Calgary’s Grizzly Cage — with a second round stoppage to top the Junior C 75-kilogram class. Deveau was also awarded the title of Best Junior Boxer at the tournament. Deveau will hit the road to Cranbrook alongside teammate Janick Lacroix for a tournament this weekend. 6-5
