The Medicine Hat Cubs fell short of a home-and-home sweep over the High River Flyers on Saturday night at Bob Snodgrass Arena.

After picking up a 5-2 win on home ice Friday, the Cubs fell victim to the wrong end of the same score the next night in High River.

Evan Pakkala led the Flyers to the 5-2 victory with a pair of assists and the opening marker — starting up a string of three unanswered High River goals in the first.

The Cubs pushed back in the second, with Noah Irvine and Kian Simonson both finding the net to cut the deficit to a goal. But High River’s Mason Mazur stopped the run to re-establish a two-goal lead through 40 minutes then Connor Minchin put the game away in the third.

T.J. Goldie took Saturday’s loss in a 24 save effort, while Dylan Jensen collected the win for High River with 22 stops on the night.

The setback puts the Cubs at 5-5-0 entering Sunday’s 2:30 p.m. matchup against the Okotoks Bisons (6-2-0) at the Kinplex.
