The Medicine Hat Curling Club’s 23rd Annual Hat Charity Classic begins today at noon, continuing throughout the weekend.

The event hosts 24 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as well as international teams from Japan and Russia.

The women’s playoff round occurs Sunday, with the final slated for Monday at 9:30 a.m. The men’s playoff will occur Monday morning, with the final happening at 3:30 p.m.

Last year’s champion, Jason Jacobson of Saskatoon, will be making a triumphant return.

The 2017 Alberta provincial champions — Brendan Bottcher and Shannon Kleibrink — will also be participating.

As in previous years, the proceeds from ticket sales go towards the Children’s Wish Foundation, which has received more than $102,000 from the event in the past 22 years.

“They’ve just been a great group to work with, so we’ve just tried to continue to support them,” said Vicki Sjolie, manager of the Curling Club and chairperson for the event.

Tickets are available at the door. It’s $3 per day or $10 for the entire weekend.
