There were lots of winners at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip this past weekend for their third-last set of races for the season.

But with scheduled WDRL cars cancelled, one impromptu set of races drew some extra attention.

Sunday’s class winners squared off in what was billed Member Track Madness, with Dunmore’s Aaron Steinkey (in a 2010 TNT dragster) claiming top spot in a win over Medicine Hat’s Riley Toth (on his 2002 Kawasaki ZX-11 bike).

Steinkey had won super pro and Toth pro bike, but they went down the strip a couple more times to name a day champion too. Duarte Silva of Medicine Hat won the sportsman class, Coronation’s Wayne Frayn took pro, but they were eliminated in semifinals of the Madness event.

The rest of the weekend saw lots of winners too. Robert Schmidt won the street class Friday, while fellow Hatter Anthony Neufeld was the Friday bike champ.

Saturday saw Medicine Hat’s Teagan Thorpe pick up the junior storm win, fellow Hatter Brendan Ashby claim junior street, and Calgary’s Greg Westling top the junior gamblers. Brooke Hawker won the pro bike class, and Chance Edelmann the electronics division to nearly make it a hometown sweep.

On Sunday Brandon Peck took junior storm, Maple Creek’s Kindi Opsal won junior thunder, Brooks’ Trevor Moore claimed junior lightning and Dunmore’s Victoria Philbert first in junior street.
