Blake Erb stole the show Saturday at the Medicine Hat Speedway.

The Legends driver took the main event to close out his the season for his class ahead of Danny Meier and Ira Laughy, but for many of the Speedway’s other racers, there’s still one very big day left on the calendar.

The racing season will draw to a close on Sept. 9 with final points days in all standard local classes as well as baby grands, mini cup cars and modifieds — and Saturday only helped fan the flames for what should be a close finale.

Jareme Koska took the checkered flag in the hobby stock’s main event on Saturday, finishing ahead of brother Jason Koska and third-place Trevor Stratton. While it improved Jareme’s position in the standings entering the final race day, September will come down to Stratton and Jason.

Jason entered the weekend with an eight-point lead over Stratton for the top of the class, but Stratton should still have a chance to steal the title away on Sept. 9.

Al Patterson returned to the track in a big way Saturday, taking the elite street stock’s main event ahead of Will Voth and Alf Hieb.

Patterson did not compete at Medicine Hat’s last three race days, leaving him near the bottom of the elite street standings despite Saturday’s main event victory.

The elite street season championship will come down to a sprint between Heib and Mitch Stovka. Hieb’s third-place finish narrowly increased his five-point lead for the top of the standings, leaving plenty to be decided when the season winds to a close in early September.
