Leaders finish strong at Hat golf club’s championship

Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club held its club championship over the weekend, with several winners holding on to opening-round leads through the final 18 holes.

Matt Taylor was the men’s winner, firing scores of 72 and 73 on the par-72 layout. That kept him safely ahead of multiple-time winner Kelly Risling, who wound up six shots back.

Senior men’s winner Ed Wagner was tied with Marlon Croissant through the opening day, but followed up his 73 with a 76 to take the title by two strokes.

Becky Martin continued her dominance of the local ladies scene, shooting rounds of 77 and 73 to win by 18 shots. Kaitlin Reniak was second.

Cathy Stober and Pat Hall had a good battle going for the senior women’s title, but Stober follower her 84 with an 83 to win by five strokes.

In the junior division it was Nolan Burzminski firing rounds of 81 and 84 to beat Sam Bratvold by 11 shots.
