Busy weekend for pickleball

Medicine Hat’s pickleball club held a tournament this past weekend, with lots of competitors enjoying the sport at the Strathcona courts.

In open singles Mike Yee beat Naveed Butt for the men’s title while Nancy Dick defeated Leona Stock.

Mixed doubles saw Yee and Diane Abrahamson beat out Butt and Carrie Irwin in the 18-plus event. Lucy Coffee and Ron Dumbarton took the 50-plus mixed crown over Greg Fox and Pam Crego, while Mike Wagner and Ira Fazio won the 60-plus event over Ruthmary Hollis and Gord Masson.

In men’s 18-plus, Yee teamed with Vicklyn Fashole-Luke to edge out Cory Streifel and Kerry Buss. Dumbarton and Russell Ward were the 50-plus champs, beating out Fox and Dalton Harding. Rick Morales and Norm Kowalchuk won gold in 60-plus over Rod Dand and Don Schaufele.

The women’s doubles titles went to Abrahamson and Deb Nielsen in 50-plus, getting past Dick and Louise Campbell. Jane Powell and Louise Martens won the 60-plus division over Stock and Linda Vanson.
