Thanks to a wild comeback win the Medicine Hat Mavericks enter the last weekend of the regular season with a chance at home field advantage in the first round of playoffs.

A four-run ninth inning, then a daring double steal in the 10th gave Medicine Hat at 13-12 win at Brooks Friday.

Lethbridge beat Edmonton to move close to clinching second place in the Western Major Baseball League’s Western Conference. But the Mavs, now 25-21, could yet pass the 26-20 Bulls with two games in Edmonton yet to play.

Jared Libke threw three hitless innings of relief for the win. Zack Kunkel’s home run in the ninth sparked the comeback, then catcher Jacob Leal stole home as a throw went to second for the go-ahead run in the 10th.

Blake Rowlett also hit a home run for the Mavs while Ashton Roy and Cole Halfacre put balls over the fence for the home team. The game took more than four hours to play in front of 390 fans at Elks Stadium.

Playoffs will start Tuesday with Medicine Hat either hosting Lethbridge, at Lethbridge or at Okotoks.
