With May being Hearing Awareness Month, “Love your ears” is the message conveyed by Jillian Price, Director, Audiology & Client Experience and Chief Audiologist for HearingLife Canada Ltd.

Price says anyone can come into a HearingLife Canada office and get a free hearing test and find out exactly what is required.

“It’s all right in-house; we’ll do a demonstration to see if you benefit from hearing aids and we’ll do additional testing with hearing aids on to confirm that you actually are hearing better… It is a free assessment,” explains Price.

There are over 350 HearingLife locations across Canada including four in Lethbridge and one in Medicine Hat. Price says no matter which one you go to; they all have the same gold-standard approach to identifying what exactly is individually needed.

“By the end of that appointment, we are going to have all the information we need to make a really specific and customized recommendation for your hearing loss,” notes Price.

HearingLife indicates “out of over 4,000 (follow-up survey) respondents, 99% were so happy with the care they received, they would refer a … loved one to HearingLife for hearing help.”

“As a clinician, you have a lot of information that you want to convey to your clients, but sometimes you just need to stop and listen — you don’t have to be talking all the time. Just listen to what your client is telling you. It’s very client-centered, patient-centered care.”

Approach, testing and patient-centred care is all important, but they have some amazing products with variety of brands, styles from in-the-canal to behind the ear.

With Hearing Awareness Month, their select hearing aids come with big savings, up to $2,000 off this May. Conditions apply, please check local clinic for details.)

One of the more innovative products is the Oticon Real hearing aid. There’s enhanced clarity for noise reduction; more access to all sounds, even when you have multiple talkers. There’s elimination of hearing aid feedback or ‘the whistle’ that hearing aids make when you get too close to them.

“This hearing aid has optimized clarity and comfort,” explains Price. “Everything is still really clear, but yet you don’t have those really disruptive sounds coming into your ear all the time. The feedback we’re getting is that this hearing aid is really natural sounding and really comfortable to wear.”

They offer many types of hearing aids and products, but they also have a the HearingLife 360-AfterCareGuarantee which offers a lot of free benefits. Details can be found at HearingLife

Price says they try to get involved with the communities they serve. HearingLife creates awareness with not only such events as Hearing Month and help sponsor community events. For example, Campaign for Better Hearing’s “purpose is to actively push hearing care up on the global healthcare agenda so that more people can enjoy better, fuller lives. Each time someone gets a hearing test at a participating HearingLife clinic, HearingLife allocates $4 towards the campaign’s Give-Back Program. This program gives free hearing aids to Canadians who need them.” Price says they have raised millions of dollars since the program started in 2015.
