A total of 2,147 people in the Brooks-Medicine Hat and Cypress-Medicine Hat ridings voted in advance polls that ended on Saturday.

The option of voting in advance polls, over a five-day period, attracted a record number of voters across Alberta – nearly 700,000.

“The turnout at advance polls was record breaking, with almost triple the number of votes cast at the advance polls than in the 2015 general election. With over 696,000 ballots cast province wide in five days,” said chief electoral officer Glen Resler.

Those ballots from the advance polls, if they were cast within the voter’s electoral division (about 473,000 fall into this category), will be counted after the polls close on election day. If the votes were cast outside the electoral division (about 223,000 fall into this category), they will be counted in the days after election day, according to an official press release.

Today, election day, voting locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone wanting to vote must do so at their assigned location. You need to take your “where to vote” card with you. If you are not registered to vote you will need to have valid identification to prove your name and address.
