GERALD GARTLY 1942~ 2024 Gerald Lyle Gartly passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the age of 82 years, beloved husband of Delores Gartly of Medicine Hat. ELIZABETH HOPFAUF 1932 ~ 2024 Elizabeth Frances Hopfauf of Medicine Hat passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Alexander Hopfauf. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to both the prayer service and the funeral mass. Family and friends will gather for prayers at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. DEAN MCKELVIE

1931 ~ DEAN MCKELVIE ~ 2024
Ronald “Dean” McKelvie, of Medicine Hat, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital due to complications following surgery. He was born on October 17, 1931, in Alsask, SK, and lived on the family farm near Benton. He attended school in Alsask and delivered groceries for his grandparent’s store. In 1961, Dean became a self-employed farmer, purchasing his uncle Raymond Shaw’s land near Benton. On December 22, 1962, Dean married Edna Doreen Ireland in Oyen and they began their married life together, continuing to farm in Benton for 23 years. The couple travelled together to many countries across the world. Dean and Edna wintered in Arizona for many years, both very active in their Apache Junction Park. Dean was an avid golfer and an excellent “8 Ball” pool player. In his younger years, he played and coached hockey and he also played baseball. Dean has always been the Blue Jay’s #1 fan. Life at Park Meadows was slowing down but Dean continued to golf three mornings per week and meet up with the guys at the ClubHouse for coffee and a game of pool Monday through Friday. Dean will be deeply missed by family and friends- he made such an impression on all those who were lucky enough to have met him. Dean is survived by his niece, Trish (Larry) Belliveau of Halifax, NS; brothers-in-law, Ken (Kate) Ireland of High River, AB, and Roger (Jackie) Ireland of Wetaskiwin, AB; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Dean was predeceased by his wife, Edna McKelvie; parents, Constance and Ronald McKelvie; sister, Verda; brother-in-law, Kendall Kempton; Edna’s parents, Howard and Eloise Ireland; sister-in-law, Yvonne (Grant) Wood; brother-in-law, Bob Ireland; and Edna’s niece, Melanie Wood, and nephew, Jake Wood. The Memorial Service will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Friday, October 18th, 2024, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Shane Hein officiating.
