HAROLD GLENN CONGRAM

HAROLD GLENN CONGRAM November 8, 1948 – September 20, 2024.
With great sadness we have said goodbye to a fiercely loving husband, father and friend, Harold Glenn Congram. Glenn passed away peacefully with his family holding his hands on the morning of September 20, 2024.
Born November 8, 1948, Glenn is predeceased by his parents Eric and Annie, sister Gail and brother Ross. Glenn shared great stories of growing up in Redcliff and Elkwater. He was the recipient of a pioneering open-heart surgery as a kid, and always felt like he needed to live his life to the fullest to honour this. Many adventures continued as he completed a business program at SAIT and returned to Medicine Hat to fall in love with the girl who lived across the street from his best friend growing up.
Glenn is survived by his adoring wife Debra and daughter Jill (Michael). Glenn was a wonderful husband and father who focused on making the best life for his girls. He instilled a strong work ethic, showing that hard work rewards great things in life. Glenn was always planning big and small trips, gatherings and fun adventures. He greatly valued his friendships and felt the greatest thing you could do was spend time creating memories, telling those stories and laughing!
His love language has always been acts of service to his family, friends and community. He was a proud member of the Kinsmen Club of Medicine Hat for many years and when he retired and moved to Elkwater, he kept busy with the bluebird count and the community association. After moving to Cochrane so he and Debbie could be closer to Jill, he joined the Rotarians and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over a decade.
Facing a diagnosis of cancer at the beginning of the year, Glenn was determined to spend a great summer with family and friends at the trailer in Sundre, sharing stories, watching the Blue Jays and sipping coffee at sunrise on the deck. Just like he always loved exploring the Cypress Hills, he travelled the backroads around Sundre finding hidden gems. His greatest pleasure was drawing a map, or better yet navigating friends and family to share what he had discovered things like wild horses, bison paddocks, and ice racing at Ghost Lake.
Even during the hardest time, we are grateful to all the wonderful healthcare workers, and Glenn was in awe of how compassionate and hard working everyone has been in taking care of him. A special thank you to the wonderful Dr. Anna Tomanek, Dr’s Card, Braun and Wakeham, and the nurses on Unit 47 at the Foothills Hospital, especially nurse Erin.
Glenn did not want a funeral service. In his memory plan a road trip, pack some “sammiches”, get together with those you love and tell some great stories and laugh a lot.
If you wish, donations can be made in his honour to Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alberta Cancer Foundation.
