RONALD JOHN CHALIFOUX
RONALD JOHN CHALIFOUX July 25, 1945 – July 23, 2024 Ron was a kind, honest, friendly, even tempered, cheerful and a willing soul. He tried to cheer everyone’s day and was always pleasant to be around. Ron was a true survivor, as he made his way through life humbly and alone. Some of his close acquaintances were Kevin and Wendy Kroeker, Lynn and Wayne Hertz, and Wayne and Grace Buss. There were many in the community who reached out to him and assisted him along the way, and I know Ron would want to thank each one. When Ron arrived in Medicine Hat, he worked as a time piece repair person, at Harry’s Watchmakers on 6th Ave SE, for several years across from the then Eaton’s store. He was very patient and was skilled at repairing mantel and Grandfather time pieces. For 20 years he was a great helper to Wayne at Sew-A-Way Sewing Machine Store. He was a great courier for Adam’s Jewellery. In his own way, Ron was creative with bead work in the native tradition, creating beautiful beaded indigenous jewellery. He would always greet you with, “Are you behaving yourself?”. He loved to collect things and loved old western movies and his birds. Ron taught us to be kind and understanding and the world is a better place because of him. At Ron’s request, cremation has been entrusted to Grace Memorial. No formal service will be held. MILDRED (MILLIE) MEIER (NEE JESSE)
MILDRED (MILLIE) MEIER (NEE JESSE) 1935 2024 Mildred was born in Maidstone, SK on June 4, 1935, to parents, Ida and Gust Jesse.
She was raised in Golden Prairie, AB and always talked about the friends she made there and her fond memories. The family moved to Medicine Hat and as a young girl she worked at Medalta Potteries. She met and married Fred in 1953 and they began their family in 1957. Mom worked various jobs: Knight Schmidt Industries and the one that we always laughed at was her being a ‘pickle pusher’ at the Bick’s Pickle Plant in Medicine Hat. Calling her the best pickle pusher around! Mildred dedicated her life to her family and decided to stay home with her children in the mid 1960s. Mom was an avid baker and baked at least 3 or 4 days a week even up until she went into a senior’s home. We always had a huge garden that she enjoyed and every fall she worked really hard preserving all the produce for the winter months.
Mildred is predeceased by her parents and her loving husband of 68 years, Fred and their special little dachshund, Suzy Q; her brother, Marvin and sister, Eleanor Zeller; brother in law, Harry; as well as Fred’s brothers, Johnny (Rosella), Rueben (Alice), Oscar (Bonnie), Art, Lawrence (Shirley), and Howard; 2 sisters, Mabel and Norma Rosell; brother in law, Tom.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory her son, Randy; Randy’s daughter, Kendra (Bob Winterburn), Sadie (Tanner), great great grandchildren, Launna and John; Maddie (Hunter); Randy’s son, Kraig; her daughter, Jane (Steve) Blowes; Jane’s daughter, Tara (Mark Fennell), Nikki (Jake), Hunter; her brother, Bob (Millie) Jesse, and her sister, Donna Adams; sisters-in-law, May, Jesse and Norma Meier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews

RUTH KLAUDT
In Loving Memory of RUTH KLAUDT 1930-2024 Ruth Marie Klaudt of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the age of 93 years, beloved wife of the late Henry Klaudt. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Loretta (Bert) Scholz and Lindy Neustaedter; her grandchildren, Mark (Desiree) Scholz, Matthew (Jennifer) Scholz, Sydney Neustaedter and Talia Neustaedter; her great grandchildren, Eli, Chanelle, Wesley, Camille, Emery, Evie and Rosie Scholz; two sisters, Leah Klaudt and Martha (John) Van Ooyen; sisters-in-law Doreen Bucholz and Linda Buchholz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Henry on December 29, 2022; by her parents John and Johanne Buchholz; her brothers Herb, Clarence (Elvina), Alvin (Delores) and John; sisters Violet (Reuben) Heather and Helen (Fred) Bayer; brother-in-law Bob Klaudt and sister-in-law Helen Buchholz. Ruth spent the past six years at the South Country Village. She met a lot of people there and her gifts of caring and respecting the staff and residents was a mutual, loving relationship. Ruth had previously volunteered at South Country Village when her mother attended there. She spent many of her volunteer hours helping in the kitchen. They are still using some of her cookbooks. But Ruth’s most amazing quality was the love for her personal saviour, Jesus Christ. She was a humble and loving woman that was obedient to God. She was always careful in her thoughts and actions and prayerful when seeking God’s will. She was always an example of God’s grace to those around her, and would lead by example by infrequently using ill words about others. She was certainly a beautiful woman and will always be remembered by her giggles, big smile, and a spectacular example of God’s grace. Ruth passed away peacefully at her home July 9th, 2024. The family will celebrate memories and find comfort with the difference that Ruth has made in their lives. She has left to be in God’s hands. There is no better place to retire to. We love you. ALAN HYLAND
In Loving Memory of ALAN HYLAND 1945-2024 Alan William Hyland, beloved husband of Dianne Hyland, passed away peacefully with his wife and three sons at his side on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the age of 78 years.
He is the loving father of Colin Hyland, Kevin Hyland, and Kyle (Sheena) Hyland. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Burke, Samuel, Weston, Parke and Madeleine; his siblings, David (Linda) Hyland, Robin Hyland, Judy (Vern) Knapik, Liz (Will Burton) Hyland; his sister-in-law, Ann Hyland and his loving nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ron and Doris Hyland, and his brothers, Colin and Derek Hyland.
Alan was born in Medicine Hat on July 28, 1945. He was raised in Bow Island, where he graduated high school at Senator Gershaw School and worked on the family farm. While farming and driving school bus he successfully ran for town council in the fall of 1971. Shortly after the election, he was appointed mayor. Advancing his political career, he was elected Member of the Legislative Assembly by the Cypress Medicine Hat riding in March of 1975, and proudly represented his riding for 18 years while becoming the party whip. Post provincial politics, he returned to municipal politics as mayor of Bow Island in 1998. He continued in municipal politics for another 23 years eventually retiring from public life.
Alan spent many years involved with minor hockey, multiple economic development boards, church boards, driving sugar beet trucks, volunteering and other various community initiatives. He loved wood work, camping with his wife, friends and family, watching his grandkids play sports and enjoyed hearing the chaos of all the grandkids at the family get-togethers.
Alan battled Parkinson’s for 14 years which did not prevent him from using his time to give back to his family and community.
The funeral service will be held in the SENATOR GERSHAW SCHOOL (104 1 Ave W, Bow Island) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bob Wallace and Rev. Dr. David Carter officiating.
