RAYMOND “RAY” WIRACHOWSKY

RAYMOND “RAY” WIRACHOWSKY May 14, 1943 March 3, 2024 Ray Wirachowsky passed away on March 3, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Left to cherish Ray’s memory is his wife, Phyllis; son, Garrett (Annamarie); daughter, Wanda; grandchildren, Tiffany (Joe), Jordan (Courtney), Bryce (Tiffany); great-grandchildren, Nico and Addilyn; brother, Len (Lena); sister, Rita Darr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents, and three brothers.
Ray was born on May 14, 1943, to John and Annie Wirachowsky in Wilkie, SK and raised on the family farm in Leipzig, SK. Ray was known as a jack of all trades. He loved to work with his hands which led him to dabble in carpentry, plumbing, and he enjoyed tinkering on cars. He was a trouble-shooter and most of what he tried to repair, worked.

JACQUELINE “JACKIE” HURLBUT

JACQUELINE “JACKIE” HURLBUT August 1, 1949 – February 28, 2024
It is with great sadness, the family of Jackie Hurlbut announce her sudden passing on February 28, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 74 years. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Terry Hurlbut; sons, Derek (Shannan) Hurlbut and Tim (Melissa) Hurlbut; daughter, Kristi (Trevor) Liboiron; grandchildren, Connor, Madilyn, Kaden, Cassidy, Isaiah and Bree. Her greatest achievement in life was raising three successful children. She was very proud of the decisions they made in life, in choosing their life partners and raising her incredible grandchildren.
Jackie was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Kristine Bauman; brothers, Cleon “Beaver” Bauman (Roxy) and Terry Bauman (Ann).
Jackie was born in Saskatoon, SK and her family lived for several years in Perdue, SK. The family moved to Calgary and then settled in Cochrane where she went to high school. Jackie had fond memories of her high school years and remained friends with many of her classmates.
While studying to become a teacher at the University of Calgary, she met Terry and they immediately became a couple. Her first teaching position was in Airdrie. Jackie and Terry were married on November 16, 1968, in Calgary. Following Terry’s career, they moved to many small towns over the next few years including Drumheller, Inuvik, Lethbridge, Camrose, Okotoks and Taber before finally settling in Redcliff where they would make their home for the next 20 years. In 2000 they moved to Provost, then Chestermere before settling in Medicine Hat for good in 2012.
Jackie was involved with CORE for 15 years and enjoyed the people she worked with and especially the Special Olympics. Jackie and Terry were foster parents for several years and fondly recall David Bakaric coming to live with them for 5 7 days but ended up staying for 7 years.
While in Provost, Jackie decided to complete her university degree through the University of Athabasca. Everyone was very proud of her when she graduated with Distinction at the age of 50 and was able to reinstate her teaching certificate. Jackie enjoyed teaching and was a substitute teacher for the local school districts but her favorite school by far was in Jenner, where Kaden and Cassidy attended school. The students in Jenner started calling her Grandma Jackie and soon the rest of the schools she taught at also referred to her as Grandma Jackie. Actually, most people who knew Jackie called her Grandma Jackie. Jackie never retired – her last day of teaching was in December 2023.
Jackie was always a believer in God and attended churches wherever she lived but it was at First Assembly in Medicine Hat where she committed her life to God and was baptized. Temple Baptist was her final church family, where she participated in weekly bible studies.
In the last few years, aside from teaching and activities with her six grandchildren, she was most interested in playing bridge with various groups. However, her most enjoyable time in last few years involved the Volksport Walking Club where she was the President. She liked to attend walks all over. Last year she was in San Antonio, Penticton and the Alberta Majesty Walk in Medicine Hat, where she was chairperson.
Jackie and Terry moved into Heritage Height Condos in 2018. She enjoyed the daily coffee get together, the exercise group and was more than willing to help with anything that people needed. Jackie and Terry loved to travel, either on their own or with many of the great friends they made throughout the years. Their most notable trips were to the Big Island of Hawaii, Branson, Missouri and her final trip to Orlando, Florida to watch spring training and check out the alligators.
Her vibrant personality naturally drew people to her and she was never afraid to chat up a stranger. Jackie had so many friends that we can’t start to mention them all. We would like to extend a special thank you to Vonda and Dave Reddekop who often travelled with them and were with Jackie and Terry when she passed away in Orlando.
Jackie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. We will celebrate a life well lived on Friday, March 15th, 2024, at 1pm at Temple Baptist Church 606 7th St SW.

TONY SCHLACHTER Anthony “Tony” Timothy Schlachter, of Medicine Hat, passed away on March 4, 2024 surrounded by members of his family. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church one hour prior to mass. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Michael’s Catholic Church (1113 1st Street E, Bow Island) on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Wojciech Jarzecki celebrant. A private interment will take place in the Bow Cemetery.
