RON THEISE July 19, 1945 ~ January 6, 2024
Ronald Alfred ‘Ron’ Theise, beloved husband of the late Judy Theise, passed away peacefully in his sleep while at his residence in Jenner, Alberta on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the age of 78 years. Ron’s memory will live on through his family: son, Robin (Marla) Theise; daughter, Laurel-Lee (David) McMenemy; one granddaughter and four great-grandchildren. Ron is also survived by one sister, Judy (Glenda); three brothers, Tom, Brian and Bruce (Evelyn) as well as numerous extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Anne and Reinhard Theise; three brothers, Bob, Rick and Terry as well as one sister, Carol. Ron was born in Ottawa, ON., on July 19, 1945, before his family moved to Success, SK., in 1952. It was in the early 60’s that Ron moved to Jenner, AB., where he met the love of his life, Judith Ann Knutson. They were married on February 8, 1969, and a number of years later they purchased the family farm. Ron enjoyed each opportunity to cast his line into the water when visiting their cabin at Suffern Lake. Throughout his time in Jenner, Ron was involved in the community becoming well know and well liked by everyone. He will be missed. It is with great sadness and gentle peace that we, the family of CHESTER JOHN MOOK of Lethbridge, AB, announce his peaceful passing at Cedar Creek Adaptacare on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Chet will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 56 years Sharon Mook (née Risdon), by his daughter Tiffany (Neil) Fraser; grandchildren Andrew and Quinn Fraser, by his daughter Camille (Tony) Rose; and granddaughters Claire and Antonia Rose. Chet was the eldest of four siblings. He is survived by his sisters Patricia and Dahlia and brothers-in-law Don (Angela) Risdon, Daniel Risdon. Chet will be lovingly remembered as a cool uncle by numerous nieces and nephews.

Chet was predeceased by his parents Emma and John Mook, as well as father and mother-in- law George and Marie Antoinette Risdon; his brother Charles Mook, sister-in- law Marie Bell,
and brother-in-law Darwin Risdon.

Chet was born on January 20, 1944 in Medicine Hat, AB, He spent his early years on the family farm and in 1949, the family moved to Medicine Hat where he lived for the remainder of his childhood. After school, Chet took a job in Calgary to work in an optical dispensary where he met and fell in love with Sharon Risdon. The two were married in 1967 and lived first in Banff before work brought them to Lethbridge in 1968. Chet quickly became an enduring and active member of the community.

Chet was involved in numerous business ventures, personal pursuits, and service clubs and organisations within the city. Chet became friends with a wide cross section of the community and enjoyed appearing in plays, singing in musical groups, painting, sculpting, and potting at the Bowman Arts Centre or LCC. Chet was an ardent lover of music and served as chair of the Lethbridge Symphony. Chet also studied and played several instruments with varying degrees of proficiency including accordion, guitar, harmonica, violin, and piano.

Chet worked tirelessly for many charities and was on the provincial board of the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT division. A highlight of his life was when he was chosen as a “Rotary Young Man of Distinction” and was sent on a tour of India with other young men from throughout the province. Chet formed lasting bonds of friendship through his involvement in service clubs and his creative endeavours.

Chet was also actively involved in the business community and had many businesses throughout his lifetime. He was instrumental in establishing a professional association for hearing aid practitioners in Alberta, serving as President of the association. He established three hearing aid practices with offices in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Calgary.

In his retirement, Chet continued to serve his community and study his interests. He and Sharon were always travellers but retirement allowed them to see most of Europe and a good part of South America. Chet was always a man of curiosity, energy, vision, wit and good humour who, despite a lifetime of compromised health, lived life to the fullest.

Chet will be remembered by those privileged to know him for his passionate and insightful discussions and hilarious antics and zingers. Right up to the end, his days were filled with plans for more travel and elaborate dinner parties with his family and friends. Chet loved life and all the energy, love, and laughter that he spread, was returned to him. We lost a good one when we lost Chet Mook. There will never be another like him.

On behalf of our family, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the many friends and family that supported Chet throughout his lifetime and who have been there for the family in our days of loss. We would like to thank the innumerable hospital staff, caregivers, nurses and doctors who graced Chet’s life, especially in the last years of his life. He had immense respect and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of all health care workers.

A celebration of Chester’s Life will be held at the SANDMAN SIGNATURE LETHBRIDGE LODGE, 320 Scenic Drive S, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating. The Celebration of Life will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Chester’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.

EDWARDS September 20, 1940 December 25, 2023
DOLORES EDWARDS, of Lethbridge, AB, beloved wife of Richard Edwards for 59 years, passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, December 25, 2023 at the age of 83 years.

Besides her loving husband Dick, Dolores is survived by her sons: Richard and Robert Edwards and daughter Rae-Ann MacDonald; grandkids: Jade (Lukas), Jayme (Matt), Jasmine, Tyson and Tye; and great-grandkids: Piper, Alyza and Ivie, as well as her sister Valeri Stefani (Rick) and her brother John Degenhardt.

She was predeceased by her parents, Val and Connie Degenhardt; her brothers Bill and Mike Degenhardt; son-in-law Gary MacDonald, and her nephew Kenny Stefani.

Dolores was the oldest of five kids born to Val and Connie Degenhardt on September 20, 1940. Dolores was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan, but called Acadia Valley home. She received her education in Acadia Valley, Medicine Hat and Calgary.

Dolores met her soulmate, Dick Edwards, in Medicine Hat, where they got married on November 6, 1964, and had their three kids. They lived in Medicine Hat, Valley View, and Rainbow Lake, before settling in Brooks. Dolores participated and coached many sports and activities over the years. She was a lifetime Legion member and was also the first woman president of the Brooks Legion Branch #63. Dick and Dolores opened Dick’s Boiler in 1981, where they worked together for almost 40 years.

Dolores was always a hard worker. She spent her days bookkeeping for Dick’s Boiler and spent most of her evenings playing in her gardens. Dolores was an avid gardener. Her yard won the “Communities in Bloom Award” in Brooks in 2004. Her love of gardening was something she passed on to the next three generations. On top of gardening and bookkeeping, Dolores had an award-winning cold room filled with all kinds of canning and jams; she baked buns and filled the deepfreeze with cabbage rolls and stuffed peppers for the winter.

Dolores was a lifelong wrestling fan, who never missed a pay-per-view. She was often heard saying on Mondays and Fridays after work, “I’m going to go home, sit on my big fat ass, crack a beer and watch wrestling.”

She was a force and the perfect lady to have on your side, yet she was kind and very generous with a great sense of humour. She was the rock in our family and will be missed forever.

Dolores will be laid to rest in a private Family Graveside Service.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sheila Rose Jacques announce her passing on Thursday January 4th,2024 at the age of 73 years. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Bob Jacques; sons, Michael(Deirdre)Malone, Darren(Alison), and their children Cara and Leah; sister-in-law, Susan Ford; niece, Jackie Ford(Scott)and their daughter Zoe; brother-in-law, Frank Jacques(Boon)and their children, Lin(Mark)and Ben.
She was predeceased by her parents, Allan and Anna McLauchlin; parents-in-law, Gerry and Margaret Jacques; and brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Pauline McLauchlin. Sheila was born in Calgary on September 6th 1950. She met Bob while working at Holy Cross Hospital and they were married on February 6th, 1970. Together they welcomed sons, Michael and Darren, and they moved the family from Calgary to Carstairs. Bob’s work took them to Maple Ridge, BC where they resided until moving back to Alberta, spending a number of years in Airdrie. In 1992, they settled in Medicine Hat, opening Ziebart Tidy Car and, eventually, CertaPro Painters. Sheila spent 14 years working in the deli department at Sobey’s until her retirement. Sheila kept herself busy by spending countless hours tending to her beautiful garden, growing a variety of flowers and vegetables. She was an avid reader and enjoyed baking, puzzles, diamond painting, and going to the gym daily with Bob.
Winters were spent in Surprise, Arizona along with many road trip adventures with their travel buddies and dear friends, Wayne and Addie Ressler.
Above everything else, Sheila was a devoted and proud Gramma to Cara and Leah. They were her pride and joy and such a light in her life. She will always have a special place in their hearts, and their memories of her, filled with love. Sheila will forever be remembered as a kind, gentle, dedicated and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life to honour her will take place on Saturday, February 3rd, 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Carriage House located on The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Grounds.

Betty Wiedemann of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20th, 2023 at the age of 95 years. Betty leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Judy (Wayne) Knight and Wayne’s daughters, April (Steve) Townsend and Anisa (Darren) Harper and their children, Jake Harper and Aniko Harper; son, Roger (Jeet) Wiedemann, Roger’s children, Sandon (Annie) Wiedemann, Jayde (Jenna) Wiedemann and their children, Abbie Wiedemann and Ethan Wiedemann, Laiton (Anne-Marie) Wiedemann and their children, Eilanna Wiedemann and Lincoln Wiedemann, as well as Roger’s children’s mother, Judy Pederson; Jeet’s children, Shayne (Nicole) Baker and their children, Ry Baker and Mia Baker and Sasha (Will) Simpson; daughter, Joan (Bill) Glockner and their children, Elizabeth Heckkner and her children, Sunny Heckkner and Donovan Heckkner and their dad, Kirk Heckkner, and Steven Glockner and his children, William Glockner and Eva Glockner; granddaughter, Rachel Wiedemann (Isaiah) and Rachel’s mom, Nancy Riehl; and son, Barry (Loreen) Wiedemann and their daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Matt and their children, Roan Matt, Jackson Matt and Aiden Matt, son, Loring (Katelyn) Wiedemann and their daughter, Charlotte Wiedemann, and son Victor, (Erika) Wiedemann; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Francis “Frank” and Susan Clarke; loving husband, Victor Wiedemann; son, Greg Wiedemann; siblings, James (Bernice) Clarke, William (Ruth) Clarke, John (Mora) Clarke, Donald Clarke, Dorothy (William) Gilmer, and Harvey (Doreen) Clarke; Steven Glockner’s wife, Anastasia Glockner; and great-granddaughter, Sophie Glockner.
Betty was born on August 17, 1928, in Froude, SK, the youngest of Frank and Susan Clarke’s seven children. During Betty’s elementary years the family resided in several small Saskatchewan towns, including Trossachs, Hazenmore, and Limerick. Following high school, Betty attended the Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK, in order to receive her teaching credentials. In 1947, her parents moved to Irvine, AB. Betty taught school in Limerick, SK, and Maple Creek, SK for two years before continuing her education at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK. It was during her years attending university, that she had the occasion to meet Victor Wiedeman, a resident of Irvine, AB and they were married in 1949 in his hometown at the Peace United Church. The young couple kept busy tending to the Wiedemann store and building their family, raising five children. Betty loved her husband, her kids, and her family above all else. Every year they would drive the RV out to the West Coast to fish for Salmon and visit their extended family. Sunday dinners were standard practice and Betty always had ice cream sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies or her famous “Good for You” cookies for everyone to enjoy.
Betty returned to teaching at the school in Irvine, AB, in 1968. Three years later, Victor sold his shares in the Wiedemann store but kept busy with Betty tending to their small farm where they raised Charolais cattle, collected honey, and sold queen bees. Some years later, they moved to Medicine Hat and in 1988 Betty retired from teaching. Victor and Betty set out to travel in their retirement. In 1989, they travelled to China and they arrived at Tiannamen square a day before the uprising . As a result of the civil unrest, they were secretly escorted out of China by ship. They had no idea of the political state that they had been in until they were well out of China. This did not discourage Betty’s love for travel and she was fortunate to visit Brazil, Europe, Disneyland, Disney World, Hawaii, Mexico, and many other destinations in her life.
Betty was a faithful woman who loved her Lord, church, and community. She attended the Irvine Peace United Church and was a member of their UCW. Following their move to Medicine Hat, Betty attended the Fifth Avenue Church, now known as the Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, and became an active member of the UCW there.
In her spare time, Betty enjoyed her walks. In later years, she learned how to swim and with Victor, they would swim lengths daily at Crestwood pool. In her afternoons, Betty liked to watch her daily soaps. She was fond of listening to music CD’s while solving a word search or Sudoku puzzle. She enjoyed reading, especially when she had the opportunity to read to her grandchildren. Betty’s door was always open and she was usually up for a game of crib or hand and foot.
After Victor passed away in 1990, Betty remained in their home until she moved to Chinook Village in 2012. As her health began to fail, she moved to Meadowlands, then to Masterpiece, and then finally to Good Samaritans. She was a wise and kind soul and a true and steadfast friend.
Betty’s Memorial Service will be held at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, 476 – 4th Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 0K6, on Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dave Pollard officiating.
