JOHANNES ANTONIUS LAURENTIUS KROOSHOOP August 10, 1947 ~ December 1, 2023
With heavy hearts the family of John Krooshoop, affectionately known as ‘The Dutchman’, announces his passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the age of 76 years. John was born August 10, 1947 in Bornerbroek, Netherlands, a son to proud parents, Bernardus and Hendreika Krooshoop. He was raised in the Netherlands where he received his primary schooling and later attended Agriculture School. He came to Canada in 1966 and started his agricultural journey. He farmed in the Burdett are until 1985, did some custom haying after this and ultimately became a grader operator for the County of Forty Mile for 20+ years. John married Daria in Bow Island on February 28, 1986, and began their lives together. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed the company of people as much as the journey or destination! He loved to fish, hunt, butcher, play cribbage, dance, and curl. John was an amazing host who loved to cook, cater and entertain. People were naturally drawn to him with his sense of humour and ability to tell funny jokes! He loved music… especially bluegrass, and could play “a mean” harmonica and was working on playing the guitar. John was thrilled when his uncles came from Holland to visit the farm, reminisce and together over the years, “bleed orange” for the Dutch National Soccer Team. He enjoyed every kind of fishing, especially deep sea fishing, and every October you would find John hunting in “The Hills” by Dutch Creek with Mario, Jimmy, Daria and his children and grandchildren. A fond memory of John’s, was when he and his brother won the Hose Laying Contest at Burdett Days. He was community minded and dedicated time being a 4H Leader and a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Bow Island. Most of all, John was dedicated to his family and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. John’s memory will remain in the hearts of his wife, Daria; children, Taria (Curtis) Gouw, Scott Krooshoop, Clinton (Amy) Massong and Mike (Corinna) Krooshoop; grandchildren, Atlyn Gouw, Jonah Gouw, Benjamin Gouw, Hailey Smith, Jasmine Massong, Cole Massong, Gavin Massong, Avery Krooshoop, Ty Krooshoop, Danika Krooshoop, Atlas Herter and Tytan Herter and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Massong; siblings, Tonnie (Agnes) Krooshoop, Mini Hoeste, Harry (Francien) Krooshoop and Theo (Regina) Krooshoop as well as special uncle, Gerrit Hollink and nephew, Frankie Hoeste, along with the rest of his nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Bernardus and Hendreika Krooshoop; daughter, Elise Krooshoop and brother-in-law, Jan Hoeste. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1st Street East, Bow Island on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Father Wojciech Jarzecki officiating. RITA LIPPERT

RITA LIPPERT 1956 ~ 2023 Rita Joanne Lippert passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the age of 67 years, beloved wife of Larry Lippert of Burstall, Saskatchewan. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children Brandie Lippert (Mark Kruse), Ricky Lippert and Regan Lippert (Maddie Pilotin) and their son Aiden; her siblings, Alvin Ruff, and Les Ruff as well as her cat Bella. Rita was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Freda Ruff, one sister Doris Rubbelke and one brother Elroy Ruff. Rita Lippert was born in Leader, Saskatchewan to Alfred and Freda Ruff and was a beloved figure in the Burstall community. Her involvement in the Ladies Auxiliary and the Bowling Alley underscored her commitment to community. Rita’s artistic talents were evident in her ceramics and needlepoint, and she was known for her delicious knefla and meat pockets. A lover of crossword puzzles, she found joy in the challenge they presented. Her beautifully tended flower garden showcased her love for nature. Rita’s warmth, creativity, and dedication to her community and hobbies continue to inspire those who knew her.
The celebration of her life will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Pastor Shane Hein officiating. REBECCA “BECKY” MANNING

REBECCA “BECKY” MANNING July 24, 1953 – December 1, 2023 Rebecca “Becky” Manning passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the age of 70 years, beloved wife of Peter Manning of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory two children, Greg Manning and Heather (Clayton) O’Bear and her daughter-in-law Kayla Reamsbottom; one grandson George Manning and two step grandchildren Jace Bueckert and Rayne Beuckert; three brothers, Mike (Leslie) Bryan, John (Jewel) Bryan and Owen Bryan as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased her son George on June 12, 2023, and by her parents Trudy and Gregory Bryan.

Becky grew up in Courtney, BC in a loving family home as the eldest to her three brothers. Her childhood included trips to the beach, heading to the mainland to visit family, a cat named George, and meeting Peter in her teen years. After several years of dating, Becky and Peter embarked on a hitch-hiking trip across Canada in 1973. They made it all the way to Newfoundland and, on the return trip they stopped in Medicine Hat, Alberta to visit some of Becky’s family. They never finished the rest of the trip. Becky and Peter found work and a place to live in the town they have called home since.

In 1976, Becky and Peter bought their home and were married. In 1977, they welcomed their first son, followed in 1979 by their daughter, and in 1985 by their second son. Becky was a dedicated mother who always found a way to entertain and engage her young family. There was homemade playdoh, crafts, baking, fabulous handmade costumes, creative birthday cakes, and open doors and fridge to many of her kids’ friends and families. Becky had an adventurous spirit that would take her and anyone with her to beautiful swimming holes, camping all over Alberta and BC, skiing, parasailing, and anything else she thought would be fun. She was fun loving, happy and had a wonderful sense of humor. Becky enjoyed an 18 year career at Oxenbury Optical as a dispensing optician.

Becky loved to travel and learn about the land and places she would visit. Along with Peter she travelled all over western Canada and into the USA. Many of these trips were on their motorcycle, or in their truck and camper. Several trips were with friends or included visits with family or going to events such as weddings. They loved to travel together. In 2005, she went on a trip to Europe with her mother; she brought home some great treasures, many photos, a once in a lifetime experience.

In 2008, Becky was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at age 55. She remained at home for five years after diagnosis, with Peter as her caregiver. During this time, she was happy, they continued to travel, but eventually she had to go to a home. Becky spent the last several years of her life at Haven View, in the Sunnyside Care Centre where she was well cared for until her passing. The family would like to thank the Caregivers at Haven View, Sunnyside Care Centre.

GLEN BADER 1964 ~ 2023 Our hearts are broken to announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, step-dad, cousin and friend, Glen Malcolm Bader, on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the age of 59 years.
