BRIAN GLEN THIESSEN

BRIAN GLEN THIESSEN
Our beloved Brian Glen Thiessen, passed away unexpectedly November 14, 2023, in Calgary, AB. He was born on November 23, 1964, in Grande Prairie, AB to Leroy and Jean (Toews) Thiessen.
At the age of 15, Brian gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by his grandpa Min. Pete Thiessen. Brian married Lora Toews on July 25, 1986. Even though parts of his journey were difficult, underneath he had a heart of gold that everyone who knew him, benefitted from. He knew no stranger. His unconditional love and approval for his children were insurmountable. He always told his boys they were second to none and said “I could not have asked for a better daughter” He was so proud of his kids. He loved his son-in-law and daughters-in-law and told his children “You picked the best.” He lived for his grand-kids. He was their biggest hero and could do no wrong in their eyes.
Brian went to school in Wanham, AB. He was a passionate farmer in Heart Valley, AB and found joy in trucking. His love for his work was evident in his dedication and commitment. Brian was also known for his mechanical abilities. He loved to tinker, repair, and fix anything from kitchen tools to rebuilding engines, and broken down vehicles, even if duct tape was the only remedy. His ability to bring life back into objects was a testament to his resourcefulness and creativity.
He was a lover of song, and enjoyed a hearty good quartet with family and friends. Brian was song leader for many years and was very involved in the Heart-valley congregation filling numerous terms as youth leader and school board member. Brian had a keen sense of humor, a talent of story telling and was master at bartering, “horse-trading,” and negotiating. Today these talents are reflected in his children.
Brian leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: wife Lora; children Tasha & Brenton Yost and papa’s buddies Gus, Ike, Otto, Hansel and Ward, SD; Dustin & Danielle and papa’s girls Avril and Blythe, Bow Island, AB, Derek & Hope, Pincher Creek, AB, and Braden, Bow Island, AB; loved by his siblings Brenda & Weldon Reimer, Edith & Cal Thiessen, Nora & Carl Loetkeman, Donny & Carol Thiessen, Melanie & Mike Reimer, Carleen & Jay Toews; mother Viola Thiessen; in-laws Dawn & Ted Nikkel, Carlene & Chad Yost, Luetta & Marc Nikkel; and mother-in-law Audrey Toews.
