EDWARD ” EDDIE” ANHORN


EDWARD ” EDDIE” ANHORN 1933 ~ 2023
Edward “Eddie” Anhorn of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Shirley Anhorn, passed away on Sunday, November 12th, 2023, at the age of 90 years. Eddie Anhorn was born February 4, 1933, into the family of Gottlieb and Mary Anhorn, one of 11 children. The only remaining sibling is now Elmer (Doreen). Ed is survived by his loving spouse of 69 years, Shirley (nee Moch). Ed is also survived by daughters, Sandra (Bruce) and Karmynn (Grant); granddaughter, Amber (Mike), great-grandsons, Austin and Ty; grandson, Dallas (Tara); granddaughter, Taylor (Lourens); and great-granddaughters, Zahn and Lucia. Ed was predeceased by parents, Gottlieb and Mary; Shirley’s parents, Phillip and Freda; his nine brothers and sisters; as well as his daughter, Debra and son-in-law, Gordon. Ed was a cowboy! He was at home on his horse, as in his chair. He had a gentle, quiet nature. He loved dogs and especially Scamp. He was an excellent marksman and he enjoyed hunting and turkey shoots He also loved bowling and arm wrestling. Ed was a good carpenter, and he built a few houses along with his brother Alvin. Music was also a big part of his life, western music for sure. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. The family would like to express appreciation for the kindness and care Ed received while a resident at Masterpiece Retirement Centre; also, the professionalism and kindness shown to the family in Ed’s last days. Thank you to Dr. Shrives and the kind words from the residents to Shirley. You have earned your rest, Ed; now join the rest of your sisters and brothers. SHEILA MAUREEN VEEDER

SHEILA MAUREEN VEEDER October 2nd, 1957 October 11th, 2023 Shelia Maureen Veeder was born in Edmonton Oct 2, 1957. She was adopted by Redginald Charles McKenzie of Ralston and his wife, Rose Marguerite McKenzie of Ralston. Sheila was then named Rosanne Marguerite McKenzie. She was raised in Medicine Hat, married Frank Dejong and lived in Campbell River for 20 years. Sheila moved to Saskatchewan for a few years, then in 2007 moved back to Medicine Hat.
Sheila loved to dance, paint and loved animals. In 2012, a stroke took her dancing away and she battled through numerous injuries and various infections until God needed her to dance again.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Bud (2004) and Elsie (2022). Sheila is survived by her brothers and sisters, Lauchlin, Kirk, Jolayne, Heather and Arnold.
A Graveside Service will be held on November 22, 2023, at Redcliff Cemetery at 10:30am.

1937 ~ JOHN BUCHHOLZ ~ 2023 John Christian Buchholz passed away at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Ross (Madeline) and their children, Vienna and Miranda, Garth (Fiona) and their children, Connor and Braden, Craig, Karen (David) Krause and their children, Jayda, Keaton, and Jenna; Linda’s children, Aubrey (Diana) and their children, Chase and Evanne, Shawna and her daughter, Grace, and Noel (Jeniffer); sisters Ruth Klaudt, Leah Klaudt, and Martha (John) Van Ooyen; sister in law, Doreen Buchholz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his first wife, Helen; siblings, Herbert Buchholz, Clarence (Elvina) Buchholz, Alvin (Delores), Violet (Reuben) Heather, Helen (Fred) Bayer (sadly Helen passed away earlier the same day as John); brothers in law Henry Klaudt and Bob Klaudt; and Linda’s son, Jeremy. John was a gentle and considerate man who was always helping others. He was humble, honest, and kind. John never complained or wanted to be a bother to anyone. While living in Redcliff, John helped many people. If he saw someone in need, he quietly helped them, never wanting recognition for his endless good deeds. He led by example in all he did. Notably, for more than 50 years, John played a key role in Gordon Memorial United Church, the building of the Redcliff Scout Hall, the Redcliff Volunteer Fire Department and with other groups. He was also recognized as Redcliff’s Citizen of the Year. In recent years, he also volunteered at Hillcrest Church. John/Dad/Grandpa will be lovingly remembered and always missed. His parting words will be carried in our memories.

LORETTA BENDER 1947 ~ 2023
Loretta Marguerite Bender, beloved wife of Keith Bender, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the age of 75 years after a short courageous battle with cancer. She also leaves to cherish her memory three children, Tony Bender, Aaron (Jessie) Bender and Melissa Bender; nine grandchildren, Koby, Dante, Kade, Kiana, Brayden, Adara, Darian, Rylan and Olivia Bender; and her sister Lynn Ellis. Loretta was predeceased by her parents James and Melba Podesta; one sister Bonnie Ellis (1979) and one brother Michael Podesta (1989). Loretta was born on November 26, 1947 in Medicine Hat and was raised in Redcliff. She received her education in Redcliff then Medicine Hat; graduating from Medicine Hat High School in 1967. Loretta and Keith married in Redcliff on July 26, 1969. From 1969 to 1980 she held various public and private sector clerical positions during their time spent in Edmonton and Wainwright where her children were born. The family returned to Medicine hat in 1980 where Loretta could spend quality time with family and the communities she left behind. She completed her working career in the office of St. Mary’s School. Loretta enjoyed curling and golfing whenever the opportunity arose. She particularly enjoyed countless games, events, and trips following her children and then grandchildren through baseball, softball, hockey, ringette and school sport activities throughout Canada and the United States. She was an avid curling, hockey, and baseball fan, especially during playoffs. Loretta enjoyed life to the fullest until various ailments affected her ability to participate actively. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. HELEN CARNELLI 1936-2023 Helen Carnelli of Medicine Hat, passed away on November 15, 2023. Helen leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Dean Carnelli, Danny (Lisa) Carnelli, and Darren (Roxanne) Carnelli; five grandchildren, Matthew (Kailee) Carnelli, Morgan (Theresa) Carnelli, Brandy Carnelli, Landon Carnelli, and Reece Carnelli (Beth Miller); four great-grandchildren, Zavrey, Cambria, Rowan and Reid, one sister Violet Brilz; her sister-in-law Marg Deringer and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Carnelli; her parents, Balzer and Christina Deringer; Ron’s parents, Baptiste and Mary Carnelli; her son Tyrone Carnelli; daughter-in-law Cindi Carnelli; brothers, Peter Deringer, Wendall (Isabel) Deringer, and Pius (Mert) Deringer; sisters, Eva (Mike) and Rose (Alec), and brother-in-law Tom Brilz. Helen was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan and moved with her parents and siblings to Medicine Hat at the age of nine. Prior to getting married, Helen enjoyed working as a bank teller in downtown Medicine Hat. She dedicated her days to raising four adventurous boys all while miraculously keeping a tidy home and yard. Helen cherished the simple things in life such as gardening, sewing, painting, and the casino. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, either in person, or through emails and messages to special friends like Zane in Medicine Hat, Marlene in Cochrane, Sue in Edson, Millie and Clara in Edmonton, and Brian in B.C.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Caregivers at St. Joseph’s Hospice and Sunnyside Care Centre. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Roque Pereira celebrant. Interment will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery. Helen D. Bayer passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the age of 94 years, beloved wife of the late Fred A. Bayer. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Lorraine (Bruce) Glasgo and their children Ryan (Savica Cavic) Glasgo and Curtis (Emily) Glasgo; her son Lyle (Lise) Bayer and their children Cory (Melanie) Bayer, Adrienne (Trevor) Brum (their children Kaylan and Jerika); daughter-in-law Kathy Bayer and her children Ashley Bayer and Kevin Bayer (Jensina Hehn); three sisters Ruth Klaudt, Leah Klaudt, Martha (John) VanOoyen; one brother John (Linda) Buchholz; one sister-in-law Doreen Buchholz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 plus years, Fred A. Bayer; her son Wayne Bayer, parents John and Johanna Buchholz, brothers Herb Buchholz, Clarence (Elvina) Buchholz, Alvin (Delores) Buchholz and her brother John who sadly passed away later on the same day as Helen; one sister Violet (Rueben) Heather; brothers-in-law Henry Klaudt, Bob Klaudt, sister-in-law Helen Buchholz and one niece Carol Hays. Helen’s love and dedication to her family was evident with all her handmade crafts, wonderful baking and fantastic family meals. The twinkle in her eye, her beautiful smile and love of a good joke will truly be missed by all. Helen’s family would like to thank Dr. Monty, the staff at South Country Village (Sunnyside) and Chinook Village for all the wonderful care and compassion mom received. Helen’s favorite color was purple; in honour of her memory, if you wish to wear purple, please feel free to do so.
