DARYL VELESTUK

DARYL VELESTUK 1953 ~ 2023 It is with a heavy heart that Donna announces the passing of her devoted husband of almost 48 years, Daryl Lynn Velestuk. He passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the age of 70 years. Along with Donna, left to cherish his memory is his son, Timothy and his beautiful grand-daughter, Jori-Lynn. Daryl is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Debbie), Wayne (Kelly) and Cheryl Loiselle; Donna’s siblings, Ernie (Linda) Krell, Lorne (Jenny) Krell, Doreen (Ron) Pengelly, Don (Lois) Krell and Gordon (Gwen) Krell as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Irene Velestuk. Daryl was born and raised in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. For many years, he worked alongside his brothers drywalling in Estevan, later moving to Yorkton where Daryl and Donna owned and operated Nutters for 10 years. In 1996, they moved to Medicine Hat where Daryl worked for D & D Oilifield Rentals for 12 years. He always had a smile on his face… probably because he always had a practical joke stirring. Spending time with family and friends meant the most to Daryl whether it was camping or just visiting. Jori-Lynn was the apple of his eye and if Daryl wasn’t with Donna, he could be found with Jori by his side. He will be missed! A private family service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in the coming days. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting http://www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is

HARVEY DARR

1933 ~ HARVEY DARR ~ 2023 Harvey Darr of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, September 17th, 2023 at the age of 90 years. Harvey was the third of six children born to Rudolph and Paulina Darr on their farm at Buffalo Head, Saskatchewan (near Hilda, Alberta). It was a difficult life, like many of that era. The family lived in a one-room sod hut with no running water. Winters were long, hard and cold; the work was backbreaking, and there was little relief, even for the smallest children. Harvey grew up working outside alongside his older brother Milton, and became an exceptional horseman, devoted to his animals and always seeking the next adventure he could enjoy with his four legged partners. Harvey loved animals in general and had many beloved dogs and cats along with the horses that he often raised from babies. He also enjoyed woodworking and making decorative pieces depicting cowboy and western scenes and had a lengthy list of jobs over the years, from general labourer to truck driver to road builder. But his constant was the horses that brought him joy and purpose. It was a hard day when he had to say goodbye to his last long-eared friend, Pepper, with whom he’d ridden many miles.
Harvey leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joyce; children, Larry (Debbie) Darr, Wayne (Denise) Darr and Bev Poole; grandchildren, Donavan (Wendy), Shaun (Jollene), Candice (Kevin), Anthony (Kyla), Aaron and Kendra (Sheldon); great grandchildren, Skyler, Dannielle, Daxten, Nolan, Kaiden, Carter, Brittany, Brianna, Spencer, Addy, Ayden, Tiger, Jayden, Shya and Tyrec; seven great-great grandchildren; special niece, Laureen Darr; special nephew, Allan Beierbach; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Paulina Darr; former wives, Betty (nee Hugo) Darr and Clara (nee Stock) Thompson; son, Wayde Darr; daughter, Karron Darr; grandson, Correy Poole; sister, Violet Beierbach; brothers, Milton Darr, Raymond Darr, Laverne Darr and Dave Darr.
Harvey’s laughter, keen wit, and conflicted but tender heart will be missed by all who loved him. Rest in peace, dear Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Uncle & Friend. You are the last of the “kids” to leave us. We will not forget you.
The Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 2:00 -5:00 pm at South Country Village, (Haven of Rest), 1720 Bell St SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 5G1 in the Heritage Room. Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Harvey Darr. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to

DRAUDSON

DRAUDSON With deep sadness and sorrow, our family announces the passing of RICHARD KENNETH “KEN” DRAUDSON, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the age of 84 years.
Ken is lovingly survived by his wife of 64 years, Leona; and by his children: Cindy (Ron) Kasner and Rick Draudson. His grandchildren: Kelsey, Karleigh, Tyler and Torrie Kasner will forever cherish his memory.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Aileen Draudson and his siblings, Joyce and Ronald Draudson.
Ken was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and was raised in Elkwater Alberta.
He married Leona and worked several jobs in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, until moving to Lethbridge. They settled on an acreage south of Coaldale and eventually moved into Coaldale.
Ken loved to spend time with his grandchildren and was always willing to help anyone in need.
He loved to “MacGyver”, and could fix almost anything he set his mind to. He created a snow plow out of a garden tractor, blade and plexiglass, and spent many cold mornings cleaning the neighborhood sidewalks. He was often called upon to help fix farming equipment and loved to help where he could.
With his declining health, Leona was unable to continue to care for him at home and with tortured hearts, he moved to Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale. He spent his final two years being cared for by the amazing staff.
No formal funeral service will be held. A family Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
