LOUIS WELLS

LOUIS WELLS 1934 ~ 2023
On Wednesday August 30, 2023, Louis Wells passed away at the age of 89 years. Louis is survived by his wife, Florence Wells; son, Gerald Wells (Marianne) as well as his daughter, Julie Seib; grandchildren, Thomas (Bailey) and Brian (Erica) Wells and Quinn Seib as well as great-grandchildren, Owen and Finlay Wells. He was predeceased by his father, Louis Wells Sr; his mother, Laura Wells and 9 siblings.
Louis, or “Lou” as he was called by family and friends, was born in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm near Galilee, Saskatchewan and would eventually meet local girl Florence Rice whom he married in June 29, 1957. Lou worked at the Husky refinery in Moose Jaw, SK for 19 years. Following the birth of their children, the Wells family left Saskatchewan to move to Pincher Creek, where Lou worked at the Waterton Shell Gas Plant for 21 years. Lou would retire to Medicine Hat in 1997 to be closer to his family. The remaining years of his life were spent in Medicine Hat.
Lou was a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed riding horses, quading, fishing at the local lakes and taking care of his yard. He spent a lot of his free time woodworking and tinkering in the garage. Lou also liked to stay involved with his community; becoming a Moose and Lion Clubs member. He kept occupied in his later years by working as a security guard for Methanex, frequently visiting the Dunmore Road A&W, and visiting with his neighborhood friends and club members. He prioritized spending time with grandchildren where he would take them fishing, to Tiger’s games and to the circus or Harlem Globetrotters when they came to the Hat.
Lou’s family will fondly remember his witty and often inappropriate sense of humor, his humbleness, and the “give someone the shirt off his back” love for others.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Riverview Care Center for their care of Louis over the last few years. A private celebration of Louis’ life will be held at a later date. 1935 ~ HAROLD HOFFMAN ~ 2023 Harold Hoffman of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Nancy Hoffman, passed away on Monday, September 4th, 2023 at the age of 87 years. Harold leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Nancy; his children, Connie Curtis, Kimberly Hoffman, Sharlene LeClair, Tellisa Thomas, and Bradly Hoffman; Nancy’s children, Russell Cayenne, Bud Cayenne, Lloyd Cayenne, and Ron Cayenne; grandchildren, Joseph Cayenne, Lloyd Cayenne, Jesse Cayenne, and Justin Cayenne; very close friend, Ashley Noble, who all treated Harold with respect, kindness, and love; as well as great-grandchild, Annabella Cayenne, that Harold and Nancy raised. To Harold, Annabella was his little button who he cherished and loved so much. Annabella was the light of Harold’s life. When she was three years old, she would swing around in circles saying, “see Grandpa, I can dance!”, in her new dress that Grandpa had bought for her, among many others. Harold was born on the farm south of Odessa, SK on November 8th, 1935. Harold went to Saint Stephens School and helped on the family farm. He helped his mom and brother milk cows and haul the milk to the CPR platform to be transported to Regina. He also delivered milk in glass bottles to people in Odessa. At the age of 15, he began doing pipeline construction as a welder’s helper, taking him throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. In the summer months, he worked on pipeline construction, and in the fall and winter months, he worked as a field gauger and mechanic in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He later started his own construction company, Hoffman Consulting Construction. Later in life, after moving to Medicine Hat, he worked at Chinook Village and Sobeys until his retirement. Harold loved BBQs with all his family. Miss you, Grandpa, and the love and stories you read to me, your granddaughter, Annabella. Harold, I will still dance with you around the TV room. You will always be beside me for the rest of my years until we meet again in Heaven, love your sweetie, Nancy. A private family graveside has been held at Hillside Cemetery. LOUIS CYR

1943 ~ LOUIS CYR ~ 2023 Louie Cyr passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023 with Wendi, Lorrie and his buddy Tyson by his side while listening to Hank Williams, George Jones and all his favorite golden oldies. Louie was born on March 18, 1943, in Port Alberni B.C. to Arnold and Dorothy Cyr. Raised in Millicent and Brooks area with his five siblings Ernie, Annette, Dennis, Frank, and baby sister, Patsy where there was always mischief and adventure around every corner. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, an accomplished Horseman and Butcher and a beautiful dancer. His love of horses shone through at an early age where he could be found on the racetrack as a Quarter horse and Thoroughbred jockey. The faster the better! An outrider for chuckwagon drivers Ralph Vigen and Orvil Strandquist and the likes. He raced his own Pony Chuckwagons and Chariots as well. In the early 70’s he followed his big brother Ernie to work on the Chilco Ranch, Cotton Ranch and Cariboo Meat Packers. If there was fun to be had those two characters found it. In his later years he enjoyed nothing more than going to Rodeo’s and chuckwagon races betting quarters on the races with his grand kids, many a crib games, and watching their hockey games and team roping. The twinkle in his eye, mischievous grin and zest for a good time will lovingly be remembered by his daughters, Connie (Mike), Lorrie (Tyson) and Wendi. His grandkids who he could never talk enough about Brett, Shyla, Tavin, Tryton and Taytem. And of course, Uncle Louie to numerous nieces and nephews. He was met in heaven by his mom and dad, his son, Todd; and his big sister, Annette; big brother, Ernie; his favorite Uncle Willy and special nephew, Bobby. What a reunion they must be having!! He was blessed with so many special friends (his caregivers) over the last few years of his life at Meadowridge and Riverview. They made sure everyday was a party. Dancing, shuffleboard, crib games, bingo, and gardening. Wendi and Lorrie will be taking their dad on his last ride later this fall when the air is crisp, and the leaves are turning color in all their glory. If you wish to honor his memory, we ask you make a donation to the Brooks Legion, 235 3 St W, Brooks, AB T1R 0S3 a place that held special meaning for him as a veteran.
