KATE KOTTMEIER

KATE KOTTMEIER April 29, 1959 ~ April 22, 2023 It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathleen Anne Kottmeier announce her peaceful, yet unexpected passing in Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 63 years. Kathleen “Kate” was predeceased by her parents, Stuart Roy Kottmeier and Rose Ellen Kottmeier (nee Farrell) and more recently by her older sister, Shelley (Joe) Litowsky. Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her brother, Timothy “Tim” Kottmeier; sisters, Dale Beaven (John), Colleen Kottmeier and twin sister, Margaret Lohmaier (Bob). Kathleen also leaves to mourn one nephew, Graham Beaven (Anita) and three nieces, Andrea Kottmeier-Moar (Bret), Kyra Beaven (Monty) and Christina McKinley (Robert). Kathleen was born in Medicine Hat and had the privilege of growing up in Ralston. After attending the Ralston Primary School, she continued on to McCoy Senior High School, where she graduated in 1977. Kathleen then attended Medicine Hat College which then led onto a long and incredibly rewarding career with the Department of National Defense; retiring after 37 years of service in May 2018. Throughout her career, Kathleen made many long term friendships. Even after retirement, she returned to work part time with the DND for another year prior to her permanent retirement in June of 2019. During her retirement years, she spent much of her time fostering and rescuing cats. Kathleen’s dedication to this invaluable resource was evident along with her compassion, hope and great love. She had a big heart, a big smile and the greatest gift of all, kindness. A Celebration of Kathleen’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a time of fellowship to follow thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at http://www.cooksouthland.com). Memorial donations in Kathleen’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
