CHRISTINE ROBINS

CHRISTINE ROBINS MAY 22, 1945-APRIL 4, 2023 Christine was born in 1945 in Rosenheim, Germany and spent the first nine years of her life living with her beloved Oma and her cousins. She immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Grande Prairie. Christine was a beautiful and curious child and her parents instilled in her an intense work ethic that she carried her whole life. She met Fred on a blind date for New Year’s Eve and they married in 1967. For 55+ years Fred adored Christine and she loved every minute of it. For the last two years during her illness he was her primary caregiver and his gentleness and patience showed he meant every word of their vows “in sickness and in health”. After their marriage they moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where they had their first daughter Raeann (her 5 pound chicken) then to Grande Prairie where she had Rhonda (her Blue Girl) and then back to Whitehorse where she had their third daughter Ramona (the Baby). She made friends everywhere she went and always made you feel seeing you was the highlight of her day. She was the dazzling centre of every party with her love of jewellery, lipstick and her amazing laugh that could be heard across any room. She was famous for her love of Elvis (who must be driving her around in his Pink Cadillac in heaven) and she loved going to the Casino with her son-in-law John. She was always involved in the community as volunteerism was an important part of her life from canvassing for the Cancer Society, to advocating for Victim’s services, being involved in Church retreats, socializing at the nursing home or cooking for people at the Women’s shelter. She also volunteered in palliative care and she sat with many people as they drew their dying breath so they would not be alone. She was truly an angel who walked among us and has returned to her home in heaven with glittering wings and no more pain.
The joy of her life was her grandchildren who she doted on, played with and loved to tease. She was warm, funny and generous with her time with them. She will be forever missed by all of her grandchildren and the grandchildren of her heart as there were so many children she cared for and loved fiercely over the years. She was so proud of them and bragged about them to anyone who would listen.
Christine was predeceased by her parents Sandra and Nik Schweitzer and survived by her devoted husband Fred, her daughters Raeann De Forest (Mitch) and her daughters Leila and Hannah Jackson (and great grandson Sam), Rhonda MacNeil (John) and his children Kaylee, Ryan and Breton MacNeil and Ramona Robins and her daughters Annalise and Evangeline Robins. The family is still processing their heartbreaking loss and will announce plans for a celebration of life at a later date.
