BARBARA ANNE SALVATORE

BARBARA ANNE SALVATORE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Anne Salvatore on February 26th, 2023, at the age of 80. She fought a brief but valiant battle with an aggressive cancer.
Our beautiful and kind wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother is survived by husband Mike Salvatore, and daughters, Natalie Dahl, Kelly Lowrie (Daniel) & Annette Stuckey (Darin), as well as stepson Paul Salvatore. Along with Barb’s children, she is survived by her 10 grandchildren Travis (Danielle), Jaret, Brenna, Brandon (Chelsea), Miranda (Dan), Sophi, Maya, Kiana, Vince, and Noah, along with her 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Merle and Jean Sundberg, and brother Robert (Bob) Sundberg. Sadly, we also lost Michele Salvatore (stepdaughter) to cancer in 2021.
Barbara was born in Calgary, Alberta but was raised in Banff. While still a student herself, she taught piano. After graduating high school, she continued to teach her piano students and work in the local shops which she remembered fondly. Barb started her family in Banff where her first two girls were born. She returned to Calgary where her third daughter was born and then went to work for AGT for several years while raising her family in the 60’s. Barb’s life took her to Richmond, BC in the mid 70’s where she stayed busy with work and her three girls.
She ventured back to Alberta a couple of years later where she found work in Medicine Hat and met and married Mike. After a few years together, Barbara had the opportunity to stay at home to help build their business. Eventually, she returned to the work force and soon found her calling as the Executive Director for the John Howard Society in the late 80’s.
Barb and Mike moved to B.C. where they had business interests and soon found that home for them was in Ladner. Together they continued to grow their business, and there Barb found a new passion which was to volunteer with Delta Assist. Barb and Mike spent many years fishing and exploring the coastal waters in their boat and loved the opportunity to share this passion with their grandchildren and other family members when they would come to visit. Eventually, the boat was replaced by an RV and later a motorhome and their penchant to explore and travel would take them to many places in Canada, the USA and Mexico.
Barb was very creative and loved to work with her hands. As a child, she would help her dad in his woodworking shop, then as a young mother would sew all of her girls’ clothes, and in later years you could find her working with pottery. She was a wonderful cook and spent hours entertaining friends and family at their home in Ladner. In the winter, she continued that entertaining atmosphere at their annual retreat in Mexico with their many close friends.
She will be dearly missed and forever loved in our hearts.
Our deepest thank you to the exceptional care and compassion she received from the staff in Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Barb’s honour for her birthday in June this summer.

GEORGE SCHILE

GEORGE SCHILE April 27, 1941 ~ March 7, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that the family of George Sylvester Schile announce his peaceful passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the age of 81 years. George was born in Medicine Hat on April 27, 1941. He attended school in Conquerville until grade 8, when like many others in that era, he was called to duty to work on the family farm. George married the love of his life, Yvonne Renee Schile (nee Ovard) on June 22, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. Music was his passion especially strumming the strings playing the banjo! George enjoyed curling, golf, cars and spending time having coffee at A&W. He was mechanically inclined and even invented a straw spreader and a barb wire rolling machine. “He could fix anything” claims his family, and this was evident in George’s receipt of the Alberta Century Award in recognition of 100 years of family farming. Although a pioneer in the farming world, he was always caught up with all the newest farming equipment. Raising chickens was something George really enjoyed and was even refered to by the people who knew him as “Chicken George”. George was a wonderful man and he leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Darrin Schile (Tracy Roberts); daughter, Tracy (Jan) Johnson; granddaughters, Jayda and Gina Johnson, Tiffany Schile, Megan (Kris) Wagstaff and Danielle Schile (Calvin Aman); great-grandchildren, Carter, Logan and Lily Wagstaff and Sienna Bellotto; brother, John (Raymonde) Schile; sister, Joanne Rich; nephews, Paul (Tawnya) Schile, Rene Schile (Emily Moger), Denis Schile, Dan (Colleen) Topolovec and Pat Topolovec; niece, Nicole Schile; great-nieces, Zoe and Eva Schile, Maya and Brooke Topolovec and great-nephews, Benjamin Schile, Jeremy Schile John Topolovec. George was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne Schile; parents, Joseph and Johanna Schile; in-laws, Clinton and Alice Ovard as well as his two pet dogs, Tico and Tattoo. George’s life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. A private interment will take place in Hillside Cemetery in the spring of 2023. MURIEL MANNING

MURIEL MANNING 1942 – 2023 We are sad to announce the passing of Muriel Manning on March 7, 2023.
If you didn’t have the privilege of knowing Muriel please let us tell you about this wonderful lady.
Muriel was always happy and positive. She gave the best hugs. She was also an old soul for as long as her daughter can remember but loved what she loved regardless of what other people thought. She was incredibly stubborn. She murdered several Nintendo products trying to save the princess who always seemed to be in in another castle.
In her youth she was a bit of a thrill seeker. She also was a show jumper and waterskier. The traits that carried her to win medals; competitiveness and bravery flowed through her for the rest of her life. She was tough – so, tough, it was hard to explain how tough! Muriel was impossible not to smile with. She had an aura that every dog or cat would seek out and they would demand her attention. This lead to an infamous tenant of her life “All dogs are lap dogs, sometimes you just need more lap”. If you knew Muriel, please know we mourn with you. If you didn’t we hope this helps you get to know her at bit.
It is a firm hope that she is somewhere happy and reunited with her husband James.
Our eternal thanks to the staff at Riverview Care Centre who not only cared for Muriel but cared about her and we assure you the feeling was mutual.
If you want to honour Muriel we ask you to hug someone who needs it and in lieu of flowers, donate to the animal charity of your choice.
A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a later date. To leave a message of condolence you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.

PHYLLIS HAMMEL

~ PHYLLIS HAMMEL ~
This past Monday, friends and family gathered at St Patrick’s Church to help Peter honour the life of his wife. Hymns were sung in celebration of Phyllis’ final journey.

“Selected for God’s Garden, For a well deserved rest, It should come as no surprise, For God only takes the best.”
Her Life Lived…
Her Life Cherished…
Her Life Honoured.
