STANLEY STUBER

STANLEY STUBER July 22, 1941 January 17, 2023
Ask not who the bell tolls for, it tolls for thee.
Stan did not abide by flowery and glowing accolades that dominate obituaries. He always claimed that at death everyone extolled all good attributes and nary a truth about the real nature of the deceased. With his true feelings about death in mind, this is how I feel he would approve of his own obit.
Stan has croaked. Drawn the black ace. He no longer fears being put to pasture at the Raisin Ranch (aka Hotel California). He has now joined the ghost riders in the sky on his steed Snip. They will ride in the clouds forever riding next to the pale horse death.
Stan leaves behind a loving mate of 15 years, Linda to join his predeceased true love Julie, son Russell and dearly loved mother Ethel who endowed him with her good manners and ethics. Where his other traits come from we know not where they originated. Personally as the writer of this missive, I take no responsibility whatsoever.
He will be sorely missed by me, Linda and sons Robin/Artha, Shawn/Anne Marie, grandchildren Anthony, Charlotte, Sophia, Nathaniel and my children Marlo, Collin and their families. As for those of you who need water advice, you are now SOL, so sorry.
A special thanks to Dr. Minty, Dr. Mah and the exceptional staff at the Cranbrook hospital for their kind, compassionate care of Stan.

JEFF “GOLDIE” GOLD

JEFF “GOLDIE” GOLD June 15, 1971 ~ January 13, 2023 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the loss of a wonderful husband, father and friend, Jeffery ‘Jeff’ Gold. Jeff passed away while surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the age of 51 years. Jeff was born and raised in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on June 15, 1971. Medicine Hat became his home and this is also where he was the co-owner of Ag-Plus Mechanical and where he married Kyndra on June 19, 1999. As many know, Jeff could very easily be described as the “life of the party’… his lively energy always brightened up a room. He loved to entertain guests and cook food for others on one of his many outdoor smokers. He didn’t just entertain with food and beverage – he could also make people laugh with quick wit and by showing off his very best dance moves! Jeff had a huge passion for hockey; whether watching, playing or cheering on his kids. He also loved a round of golf with his buddies, hiking, snowshoeing and paddleboarding. Above all, Jeff loved his family more than anything. He had a genuinely kind and caring attitude and those are the qualities that will be deeply missed. Jeff’s memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, Kyndra; three children, Heather (Chris) Mackey and their son, Zion, Taylor Gold (Jordan Kroeger) and Tanner Gold; siblings, Jane (Dave) Klug, Donna Rodin, Janet (Ken) Dillabaugh, Jim Gold (Susan Birnie), Debbie Christian, Barb Gold, Marcie Holderness, Wayne (Susan) Burton and Garry (Shona) Burton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Jeff was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Vera Gold and Marlene and Sots Burton; siblings, Bruce Gold, Bobby Gold and Judy Gee; a nephew, Jarrod Rodin and a niece, Ireland Rodin. A Celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at the Cypress Centre, 2055 – 21 Ave. S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. STUART SMITH

STUART SMITH March 21, 1940 January 18, 2023
Stuart Melville Smith passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023, at the age of 82 years, with his family by his side at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice, Medicine Hat. He is survived by his wife Donna Jean (nee Deacon), and his two children Andrew (Drew) Smith (Meagan Enticknap, Ellie, Finn and Olwen) and Pamela Hossack (John Hossack, Molly and Bennett), his sister-in-law Jane Smith of Brampton, Ontario, and brother-in-law Cal Deacon (Tracy) of Vancouver, and many nieces and nephews. Stuart was predeceased by his father John Melville Smith, his mother Alice May Smith (nee Bell), his brother David of Brampton, Ontario, and his sister Jocelyn Knowles (Colin) of Calgary. Stuart was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Vancouver where he met Donna, the love of his life, and a remarkable group of high school friends, with whom they spent numerous summers in Kelowna and visited as much as possible over the decades. Married in 1963, the young couple were transferred to Alberta in 1968 for Stuart’s work with International Harvester, eventually opening a dealership in Medicine Hat in 1975 Doram-Smith Services International Ltd. A lifelong learner, at the age of 44 years, Stuart went back to school, taking a year of history at the Medicine Hat College. While his family stayed in Medicine Hat, Stuart moved to Edmonton in 1986 to study at the University of Alberta and earned his law degree in 1990. Back in Medicine Hat, Stuart practiced law alongside Greg Cote, and finished his career as Duty Council at the Medicine Hat Courthouse, work that he found particularly rewarding. For many years, Stuart was an active member of the Medicine Hat Rotary Club where he regularly volunteered at the annual Music Festival. In his retirement, Stuart indulged his love of reading and listening to jazz music. While volunteering at the Medicine Hat Archives, he was able to apply his interest in local history by helping to build a database of digitized land records. Above all, Stuart was a loving husband and father, who as a younger man found time to coach hockey and lead a Boy Scout Cub Pack, and in his later years he travelled around Canada and further afield to spend time with his children and grandchildren. For nearly 50 years, Stuart and Donna called Medicine Hat home, raising their two children among a wonderful group of friends, with whom Stuart regularly demonstrated his quick wit and sense of humour. In recent years, the warm and generous support of their neighbours was a great help in coping with Stuart’s declining health. Our family would like to thank Dr. Prince of Medicine Hat, Dr. Cheng at Calgary’s Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, and numerous other caring members of the Alberta Health Services in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, our family would encourage gifts in Stuart’s memory to St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice and the Medicine Hat Food Bank. A Celebration of Life is being planned for March and further details will be shared closer to the date. To leave a message of condolence you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
