LARRY PAUL (PEPPER) MARTIN 1941 ~ 2023 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Larry “Pepper” Martin, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Pepper is survived by his wife, Donna (nee Herrmann); daughter, Melodie (Kelly) Garland; son, Chad (Crystal Geddes) Martin; grandchildren, Beth (Ryan) Lochart of Swift Current, Megan (Michael) Webb, Cameron Garland as well as Kendyl and Kyler Geddes-Martin. Poppa Pepper is also survived by his great-grand-children, Bennett and Brinlee Webb, Aurora Lochart as well as Aurora’s soon to arrive sister who is expected in May 2023. Pepper ran a successful roofing business and was a prominent participant, coach and parent in the Medicine Hat Hockey Community. He was also a long time member of the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. Pepper passed away in Calgary on Monday, January 2, 2023, after a brief but courageous battle with Cancer. It is with great sorrow that the families of Stan Schneider announce his passing on January 3, 2023.
Stan was born in Leader, SK on February 19, 1961. He attended elementary school in Liebenthal, SK and high school in Leader, SK.
Stan was pre-deceased by his parents Frances and John; and his sister Linda. Left to celebrate his memory are his wife Chris; his step-daughter Cori; his brothers Leo (Gladys) and Gerald (Cathy); brother-in-law Greg; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He also leaves to mourn many other relatives; as well as his large extended family on Chris’s side. Additionally, Stan is remembered by many, many friends and acquaintances.
Stan farmed for most of his life. After moving on, from farming in 2007, he remained a farm boy at heart and looked forward to every opportunity to get back and help out on the farm, even for short periods of time. His farming focus expanded to include his pristine, perfect lawn in Regina. His beautiful lawn was admired by many and was the envy of the neighbourhood. In addition to farming, Stan held numerous jobs over the years and viewed each as an opportunity and an adventure.
Family was most important to Stan and shaped who he was as a person. He took every opportunity to spend time with people that he loved and treasured every moment with them.
Stan had an incredible passion for life which included food, people, culture and new experiences. He was very generous with his time and kindness for family, friends and community. Everyone who knew Stan was touched by his infectious laughter and his natural wit and comedic abilities. Stan was always up for a good time.
Stan and Chris traveled extensively with family visiting many parts of the world. The variety of destinations included South America, South Asia, Turkey, Ukraine, the Caribbean, Mexico and many points in Canada and the US.
Stan is loved by so many and will be dearly missed. His impact on us will live on forever.
Prayers will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 3:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Fox Valley, SK on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Fox Valley Cemetery.

MOLLIE WEBSTER
1927 ~ MOLLIE WEBSTER ~ 2023 The spirit that became Mollie Webster arrived January 9, 1927, to parents Arthur and Evelyn Crampton of Kenton, England. While born in Liverpool, this treasured only child spent her early years in Kenton. An active young thing, she was already a Sea Cadet by the age of 12, just after Germany and Italy had signed a treaty of cooperation. Sea Cadets helped direct her future. She studied art and started a career as a costume designer for stage and film, but the war altered her plans. At age 17, Mollie qualified and trained as a member of the Women’s Royal Naval Service, the famous WRNS. In November 1944, she was assigned to the underground bunker of Combined Operations Headquarters in Portsmouth. She delivered messages in the labyrinth of tunnels where D-Day was planned and executed and where the campaigns to free Europe were developed and coordinated. She lived under the tight restrictions of that duty. Only once the English Channel had been cleared of mines were she and other WRNS given a breather on a ship in the harbour. She got to take the helm for a time and found it exhilarating. At the war’s conclusion, she trained as an Occupational Therapist, an emerging field in which she used her creativity to develop activities to help many wounded veterans recover and thrive. Mollie retired from the WRNS in 1949 with the rank of Petty Officer. Mollie met William (Bill) Webster, a military pilot who then transitioned to commercial flying. They married April 2, 1951 in Harrow, England. The two had three daughters. In 1979, Mollie and Bill moved to Medicine Hat, where she became a Canadian and the Director of Occupational Therapy at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Thoroughly engaged with her community, Mollie was an active supporter of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, the Medicine Hat Art Club, Medicine Hat Historical Society, Medicine Hat Writers Club, and Medicine Hat SPCA. Loyal to her military roots, Mollie supported the Canadian Legion and was a vibrant member of The Royal United Services Institute. Even in retirement and alone after Bill’s death, she remained a catalyst to activity. An avid golfer, world traveler, and artist, she also initiated the IZZY project rallying friends to knit dolls for Canadian soldiers to give children in combat areas. At River Ridge Senior Village, she worked with managers to offer weekly art classes and exhibits. When Covid hit, she encouraged gardening and knitting squares, 880 of them, that she sewed into 22 afghans for residents in the long-term and memory care areas. When she worried that the next generations would not know the sacrifices made for them in WW II, she created a short story about the Dunkirk evacuation. Set in her beloved Devon, “CHARLIE” tells the story of a brave, small boat rescuer and his granddaughter, Penny, perhaps an echo of Mollie’s young self. If Mollie loved the water, she also enjoyed flying. In the last year, she had a chance to take a private plane flight over Medicine Hat and another over Elkwater. She said, “When the plane took off, all concerns fell away, cancer, old age, aches, loss. I was again…just me.”
The September 2022, death of Queen Elizabeth II profoundly affected Mollie. Only nine months apart in age, they experienced the war on somewhat parallel paths. In fact, for her volunteer work with the St. John’s Ambulance in England, Mollie was invited to tea with Her Majesty. In addition, later she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedicated service to her peers, her community, and Canada.
Mollie Webster died in Medicine Hat, January 5, 2023, four days before her 96th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Evelyn Crampton and husband, William (Bill) Webster. She is survived by her daughters, Keris (Ben) Batley of England, Jackie Kirk (Richard Traxel) of Medicine Hat, Michelle Hendy of Australia; grand-children, Jonathan, James, Christopher, and Victoria Batley; Stuart Kirk and Jenna Traxel; Rebecca, Emma, and Amy Hendy, as well as by five great-grandchildren. Gerda Durk of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at the age of 88 years. Gerda leaves to cherish her memory her husband, William “Bill”; children, Gloria Durk and Kevin (Dixie) Durk; grandchildren, Michael (Sara) Baird, Laura Baird (Clay), Steven (Jessica) Durk, Travess (Amber) Durk and Jeremy (Rachel) Miller; great grandchildren, Arianna and Marc Baird, Leonidas and Alaric Durk, Vincent Durk, and Nixon Miller, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gerda was predeceased by her parents, Franz and Heinriette Morning as well as brothers and sisters. Gerda came to Canada in 1953. She met the love of her life, Bill in Empress, AB and they were married on May 6, 1955. They were married for 67 wonderful years. Gerda worked various jobs throughout the years, Empress hotel, AGT operator and Empress school secretary. Gerda and Bill had two children and the family moved to Medicine Hat in 1972, where she resided until her passing. She was a long time member of TOPS for more than 25 years. Gerda enjoyed playing cards, social gatherings and all kinds of crafts, Knitting being her favorite. She cherished the time spent with family and friends. ANNIE GREENWALD 1927 ~ 2023
Annie M. Greenwald of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the age of 95 years, beloved wife of the late Samuel Greenwald. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Gloria Greenwald and Denice Greenwald; five grandchildren, Annette, Sonny, Carissa, Jason and Stephanie; six great grandchildren; and two siblings, Joe Giesinger and Marion Pineau. She was predeceased by her parents Mark and Eva Giesinger; her husband, Samuel Greenwald; two daughters, Jeannette and Linda; and son, David. Annie and Sam operated Holiday Gulf, B.A., and Royal Light service stations. Following Sam’s death, Annie upgraded her education and worked at Beny Motors for many years. Volunteerism was very important to Annie and she spent 25 years at the post. She was a part of the C.W.L., Elks and Eagles for many years. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 – 2nd Avenue N.E.) on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. LILA HIRSCH 1932 ~ 2023
On Friday, January 6, 2023, Lila Marguerite Hirsch passed away at 90 years of age. Lila was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Mathew “Matty” Hirsch and her beloved first born grandchild. She is survived by her three children, Ken (Pam) Hirsch, Dale Hirsch and Lorie (Mark) Hazzard; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Lila loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family, especially on the holidays. She would bake for weeks and cook for days to lay out a spread worthy of royalty. She also relished her quiet time and during the summer she spent many hours gardening which was replaced with reading during the winter. Lila was fiercely independent but also selfless, always thinking of others before herself. There will be a family ceremony at a later date when Lila will be laid to rest beside Matty. WAYNE SYVERSON
WAYNE SYVERSON 1938 – 2023 Wayne passed away on Saturday January 7, 2023, at Masterpiece Retirement Home. He is survived by his loving wife Reva (nee Foulston), son Jay Lee and his wife Gail, granddaughter Carisa (Jordan) Wilson, grandson Chayse (Kristina) Rembowski; two great grandchildren Walker Wilson and Calvin Rembowski. Surviving brothers are Lorne (Glenda) Syverson and Keith Syverson; brother-in-law Harold Niebergall (husband of Wayne’s deceased sister Grace).
Wayne was born in Pontiac, Michigan and the family moved shortly after to the Vale, Alberta area where Wayne’s father farmed with his brother, Doc Syverson. Wayne attended Rush Lake School grades 1-8 then moved to the Division 4 High School Dormitory for grades 9-12. Here he met his future wife Reva Foulston…he moved to Edmonton where he enrolled in an apprenticeship for a craftsman in steel and reinforced concrete. Reva and Wayne married in 1957. A few years later Wayne and Reva bought a ranch near Bowell. Later they moved to a ranch near Nemiskam, then Seven Persons then Manyberries.
Wayne enjoyed calf roping in his earlier years and eventually included team roping to his resume. He travelled to rodeos across Montana, Alberta and Saskatchewan. He was known as a very consistent roper and his trophy case proves it with numerous buckles and saddles that were won. He also had a passion for riding good rope, ranch horses and looking at a field of good cattle. He also enjoyed branding season and the camaraderie of fellow ranchers as well as playing horseshoes and a good crib game.
Wayne suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years. He moved into masterpiece in 2020. He enjoyed his stay there until his peaceful passing; being well looked after by such great staff.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant Pat Grisonich Celebrant.
