1935 – DOREEN FILGAS – 2022

Doreen May Filgas (nee Curry) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on March 8th 2022 at the age of 86 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Walter Filgas; son, Lorne-Michael Filgas: daughter, Cheryl (Lyle) Rebmann, stepchildren, Greg (Kenna) Filgas; Dale (Gloria) Filgas, Bev Filgas, Brad (Anne) Filgas; brother, Don (Ceicle) Curry; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Lawrence Curry; mother, Ruby Besner; brother, Bob Curry; sisters, Laurene Blake, Irene Hoover, Opal Felzien; and granddaughter, Kimberley Nicole Rebmann. Mom was a loving and devoted wife. She was a very supportive and caring mother to her family and a friend to all who knew her. She was happy sharing life’s joys and wonders with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks to Ryan Filgas, Kristen Rebmann, and Kaitlyn Rebmann for being there for your “Nanny”. Marianne Appolonia Hintz of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the age of 84 years, beloved wife of the late Bernhard Hintz. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Betty Ann (Larry) Bernath, Jim (Cindy) Hintz, Don (Marg) Hintz, Jerry (Michelle) Hintz and Gene Hintz; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Barb) Mastel; three sisters, Clara Anheller, Charlotte Lee and Connie (Stan) Weiss as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 1941 – HAROLD KASPER – 2022

Harold Cornelius Kasper passed away in Medicine Hat on Thursday, March 10th, 2022, to be with his Savior and Lord at the age of 80 years. Harold was a beloved husband, and lifelong friend to Ann Kasper (nee Doerksen), as well as a cherished father, grandfather, and friend. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Ruth (Raul) Zalazar of Medicine Hat, AB, Wayne (Lisa) Kasper of Arrowwood, AB, and Debra (Albert) Koenen of Argentina; ten grandchildren, Anneli Zalazar, Randall Zalazar, Raissa (Mike) Grose, Lucia Kasper, Tim (Melina) Koenen, Marco, Lisa, and Joel Koenen. Harold is survived by his brother-in-law, Lorne Cornelson of Creston, BC; brother, Robert (Shirley) Kasper of Texas; sister-in-law, Betty Kasper, of Winnipeg, MB, sister-in-law, Brenda Schaffer of Bassano, AB; sister, Dorothy Schaffer of Bassano, AB; and a large extended family. Harold was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Annie Kasper; his sisters, Patricia (in infancy) and Joyce Cornelson; his brothers, Kenneth and Douglas; and brother-in-law Larry. Harold was born on April 1st, 1941 in Beaver Flats, SK, after which his parents moved to Main Centre, SK where he grew up on the family farm, and came to love the land and the livestock. At age 16, he came to personal faith in Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord, a decision which transformed his life. His desire to come to better know God and His Word led him from High School to Millar College of the Bible, from which he graduated in 1962. In the interim, two important things happened in his life, he became interested in missionary work and met his lifelong companion and love. Harold and Ann were married in 1963 and a year later left for Argentina to fulfill their missionary call, where they served for 40 years, returning to Canada in 2004. Being an active person, Harold then found employment with MJB Enterprises Ltd. where he enjoyed working well past retirement. During his later years, he waited expectantly for the Lord's return and to be ushered into his Saviour's presence, to enjoy eternity with Him. Melvin Bernard Hittel passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the age of 74 years, beloved husband of Brenda Hittel of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Melanie (Kelly) Robb and Stacy Hittel; four grandchildren, Brennan Robb, Meagan Robb, Kinley Hittel and Jase Hittel; three brothers, Ernie (Joan) Hittel, Ken (Elaine) Hittel and Tim (Karen) Hittel; his mother-in-law Verna Bischoff; brothers and sisters-in-law, Les (Bev) Bischoff, Wanda Munro, Murray (Connie) Bischoff and Blanche Bischoff as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Caroline ‘Carol’ May Droeske of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 64 years, wife of the late Ernie Droeske. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Shawn Droeske and his children, Madison, Chase and Ali and her daughter, Jamie Droeske; one brother, Leonard (Darlene) Lutz and brother-in-law, Jim Jones. She was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Katherine Lutz; her husband, Ernie on June 28, 2008; two sisters, Brenda Jones and Marilyn Bailey. 1967 – JARED NEAL GENDRON – 2022

Jared Neal Gendron passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at the age of 54 years. Jared is survived by his loving mother, Loretta Ann (Gendron) O’Bear; step-father, Don Theodore O’Bear; dear friend, Darlene Doughtery of Halifax, NS; son, Steele Blue Vogt and Amber Clowe; brother, Shawn Pierre Gendron and his daughter, Victoria; sister, Lisa Marlena Gendron and her daughter, Kayla and son, Ethan; step-sister, Meredith (Brandon) Conboy and their children, Makayla and Braedon; step-brother, Clayton (Heather) O’Bear of Crowsnest Pass, AB. Jared was predeceased by his father, Lloyd Richard Gendron in 2003; his grandparents, John and Magdalena Koch, Ted and Elaine O’Bear and Martha and Phillip Gendron; his favourite aunt, Rose; special Grandma Koch; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jared worked at Goodyear Canada from March 8th, 1989 until his retirement after 31 years of service on April 1st, 2020. One of his favourite past times was to go to his Aunt Rose’s cabin and go fishing and visit with family at Lac Pelletier in Swift Current. He loved music and enjoyed going to concerts, walks in Kin Coulee park, and travelling to Mexico, where he met the love of his life, Darlene. His last vacation to Mexico was just this past November. He loved hockey and was an avid fan; collecting jerseys and other hockey memorabilia. LOUISE SHERWIN

October 1, 1940 ~ March 10, 2022

Louise Lillian Sherwin (nee Schinbein) passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the age of 81 years. Louise was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and spent her childhood in Kayville and Crane Valley, Saskatchewan. She married Eugene Dale Sherwin on August 25, 1957 in Verwood, Saskatchewan. The couple spent some time on the family farm and then made their home in Crane Valley, Saskatchewan. Together Louise and Dale raised four children:
Tim & Betty (Hesterman), Calvin & Alison (Jordison), Marnel & Keith (Hesterman) and Cory & Cheryl (Wong). Through the years they were blessed with many grandchildren: Michael & Heather Sherwin, Sabrina & Dwayne Tabler, Jeremy and Johnathon, Jamey & Lindsey Jordison, Teneal & Mike Brockley and Carson Hesterman and great-grandchildren: Tara & Justin Sherwin, Britton & Teeson Tabler, Halee, Macey, & Bryleigh Jordison, & Avery & Owen Brockley. She was predeceased by her parents Adolf, Emma, and step-dad Rene; brother, Murray Segaert; step-brother, Ed Schinbein and her step-sister, Victoria Ikert. Louise was a wife, mother and homemaker who loved gardening and canning, raising sheep and doing crafts such as card making, quilting, sewing, cake decorating, and oil painting. She loved music and dancing and was a double-step Ukranian dance enthusiast. Louise was a partner in the farm and in the Esso business with Dale as well as a hairdresser. She was also the custodian of the Crane Valley School and became a care home operator in Regina, Saskatchewan in the 90's. Louise was an active member in the Kinette Club of Oro Lake, the Edsel Car Club and the Medicine Hat Church Quilting Cub. Louise held fond memories of dancing at Danceland at Manitou Beach and going on excursions with the Edsel Car Club. The marking of special anniversaries also brought fond memories: a trip to Knoxville, TN., to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, a trip to Alaska to celebrate 50 years of marriage and a celebration with family and friends in Medicine Hat to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. She also made some very special connections with some of the international exchange students that they offered room and board to while they were in Regina, Saskatchewan. Louise will be fondly remembered for being the caretaker of those who were less than capable of caring for themselves. Louise’s memory will be fondly remembered without the proceedings of a formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise's memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice. LUST, Harris Gene (Hal)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Harris (Hal) Gene Lust on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at the age of 80 years.
Hal was born in Medicine Hat, AB to Emil and Lorna Lust on August 8, 1941. He was raised on the farm with his parents and grandparents until the family moved to Lethbridge. He worked various jobs in the car business and purchased Strathmore Motor Products in 1978. He owned SMP for 44 years and the dealership provided him with much joy and satisfaction over the years. Hal always said that he loved every minute of going to work there. Over the years, the dealership received several prestigious awards such as the GM President's Club and the Triple Crown. In more recent years, he enjoyed traveling the world, flower gardening, woodworking, going for morning coffee with dear friends and spending time with family.
Hal is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Susan; Daughters, Deanna (Clarence) Kooistra and Bonnie Gilmore; Susan’s children, Brad (Carrie Aiken) Scarlett and Carrie (Will Keeman) Scarlett; Daughter in law, Janice (Scott Reid) Patience; Grandchildren, Sabrina, Maria, Emma, Avery, Hayden; Brother, Barry (Christina) Lust; Nieces, Roberta (Osbert Peters), Jolene; Tracy Basaraba, Debra Basaraba, Denise Basaraba, and Craig Lust. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lorna; first wife Alma Mae, sister Ruby Basaraba, niece Lisa Basaraba, and nephew Brett Lust.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Strathmore Alliance Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor John Duerksen officiating. A reception for friends and family will follow.
