1922 ~ MARIA RADSMA ~ 2022

Maria passed away on February 22, 2022, with her family by her side. Maria was born in the Hague, Netherlands, the only daughter of five children born to Cornelis and Theodora Pas. In May of 1949, Maria, her husband Remmert, and son Benny immigrated to Canada, settling in Rapid City, Manitoba, where they owned the local garage. In 1950, their only daughter Shirley was born. Maria was known for her quick wit and her need to keep busy. She loved a challenge, especially a math one. Even though she was stubborn in her ways, Maria was full of love for her family. In 2019, Maria moved to Alberta to be closer to her grandchildren.
Her great-grandchildren kept her full of life. She loved to teach them life lessons, and they loved to teach her new technology. At 98 years old, “Hey, google” become one of her new favorite sayings. Ensuring that “Family Comes First”, Maria kept herself busy making items for her family. Her love for knitting kept her mind strong, she enjoyed going to Stitch and Chat, where she would socialize and teach the “old ladies” (that were younger than her) how to knit. Left to mourn are her daughter Shirley (Bob) Hainsworth, brother Theo Pas, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous family members in Holland. She was predeceased by her husband Remmert Radmsa, sons Ben and Jan Radsma, good friend Chris Corby, granddaughter Debbie Walpole, and brothers Dick, Case, and Jack. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. LUCY TOWNER

1927 – 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom. Lucy Towner (nee Rigo), of Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away quietly in her sleep on the morning of February 27th, 2022, at the age of 94. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. David Rigo in Hagersville, Ontario on March 23rd, 1927. She was the oldest of their five children, Nora, Louis, John and Joe, who have all passed on to their final reward. She married Frederick Hugh Towner on August 25th, 1951, and is survived by her five children, David (Patty), Catherine (Keith), Susan (Barry), Richard (Trina), and Maria (Wally); 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her husband, Fred passed away April 15th, 2000.
Lucy is remembered as a humble and loving person with a big heart and a beautiful soul. As a mom, she was always there for us. She was an amazing cook and loved to garden, read, knit and do word search puzzles. Music brought her great joy and she loved to sing and yodel and brought joy to those around her. She knit over 700 baby hats for the Medicine Hat Hospital. Lucy was especially interested in the Native American heritage, as she lived next door to the Six Nations 40B Reserve near Hagersville, and her dad was very close to many of our native brothers and sisters who lived there at the time. The last 7 years she resided at the Cypress View Foundation where she enjoyed living and was thankful for the compassion and care that the staff there showed her. Mom, you will be missed so very much. Please know that you are loved with the deep love only a child can feel for their mother. We have shed our tears at your passing, but we carry on with the joy and comfort that you have moved on to your final reward for a life well lived and are now with God. We wait for the day we will be with you again in glory.
Donations in Lucy’s name may be made to the Southern Alberta Humane Society https://southernalbertahumanesociety.com
