1931 ~ ALFRED KOHLS ~ 2022

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Alfred Morris Kohls on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the age of 90 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 65 years, Doreen Kohls of Medicine Hat; three children, Pam (Bing) Sulz, Cindy Kohls (Glenn Adam), and Carey (Mike) McNeill; six grandchildren, Kaley Sulz (Joel Graham), Keaton Sulz, Lorin Kohls, Jaylyn Kohls (Rob Foley), Boston (Sarah) McNeill, and Clayton (Sarah) McNeill; two great grandchildren, Liam Burns and Jovie Graham; one brother, Ray (Jeanette) Kohls, one sister, Marlene (John) McKnight; one sister-in-law, Elaine (Fred) Blondeau; one brother-in-law, Les Muhlbeier; two aunts; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lydia and David Kohls; Doreen’s parents, Henry and Leonora Muhlbeier; two brothers, Leonard (Carol) Kohls and Harvey (Joanne) Kohls; and one sister-in-law, Janice Muhlbeier. Farming life began for Alfred in 1957 at Golden Prairie where he would enjoy the next 57 years doing what he loved. There were so many fond memories made of the farm life because of Alfred’s love for farming and his family. Alfred was a good welder and carpenter and could fix almost anything but his talents were not limited, he also restored tractors, a model A car, a wooden buggy, several pedal tractors and built tractor cabs. He took up wood carving and has generously given carvings to family members. He enjoyed the simple things in life; his family was everything to him. There was great joy for him just watching his children and grandchildren have fun. Hours of entertainment were had on the swing set, slide, teeter totter and playhouse – all built from scratch by Alfred. In the winter he would push snow so we could enjoy the huge snow piles! The last two years he enjoyed his time at Masterpiece exercising daily as well as setting up puzzles. Alfred’s family meant everything to him; he was a very quiet, gentle man enjoying the simple life. He will be greatly missed by all of us and will remain in our hearts forever!
A private funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Daryl Martin officiating. The chapel service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home Youtube page. BEN STEGEN
February 1, 1923 ~ January 24, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our wonderful Dad, Benard Norvi Stegen. He humbly came into this world February 1, 1923, born in the homestead house on the ranch and left us January 24, 2022, just a few days shy of his 99th birthday. Ben was a dashing young man and quickly won the heart of Mavis, the new Jenner school teacher from England. They travelled back across the big pond to England in 1959 for their wedding. Together they raised their family in Iddesleigh and then on the Stegen homestead ranch east of Jenner. Over the years, Ben ran a hardware store and propane sales in Iddesleigh, was the serviceman for the I & J Gas Co-op, as well as his farm and ranch operation. He especially enjoyed “branding season” and was active in the community organizations, always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. After their retirement to Medicine Hat, Ben continued to enjoy good health, played ball, curled and fished into his early nineties. One of the highlights of his senior slow-pitch career was pitching a shutout game at a tournament in Castor, AB at the age of 73. Dad liked to volunteer his time at the the Kiwanis Club, especially for the annual Christmas Dinner Program. He and Mom loved their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they came along and stayed active in the Medicine Hat community.
Ben taught his family so many practical skills growing up on the farm/ranch, but it was his subtle teaching by example that resonates the strongest; his kindness, humility, generosity and genuine concern for other people. In his simple words recently, “I just think its important to be nice to people.” He was a gem of a person with such a playful and easy-going temperament. The family he created of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved him and will dearly miss him, but we are comforted knowing that he is now comfortable and reunited with our mom.
Dad moved into the Wellington Retirement Residence, where he quickly grew to be a favorite with the staff and resided until his passing.
Ben was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mavis; his parents, Helmer and Bertha; his three brothers, Harry, Leonard and Norman; his sister-in-law, Alice, and his niece, Marilyn. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Grant (Leanne) and his daughter, Carol (Dale); his grandchildren, Jenna (Rory), Tiffany (Kyle), Todd, Carly, Kayla and Janelle, and his two great-grandchildren, Ben and Luke.
A Celebration of Ben’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street SW, Medicine Hat on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Carl Bogda officiating. Due to current Covid restrictions, attendance must be kept to 50 people. HARVEY FREDERICK BECK

1929-2022
It is with great sorrow we share the news of the passing of our father Harvey Beck. He leaves his cherished wife of 68 years, Dolores. He also leaves children, Janice (Gordon) Ponto, Keith (Regi) Beck, Nancy (Greg) Morris, and Stephen Beck; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Joyce; as well as many other family members and friends. Harvey was born and raised on a farm outside of Schuler. That is where he met the love of his life, Dolores, who taught school in Schuler. They were married in 1953 and lived in Schuler, Redcliff, and then Medicine Hat. Harvey worked hard and played hard his whole life. Harvey and Dolores enjoyed camping and boating, world travel, playing music, antique cars, and being snowbirds in Yuma. Harvey could fix and build anything, that’s why his nickname was Mr. Wonderful! Family was very important to Harvey. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as a friend to many. His warm manner and sincere interest in others was always felt, as well as his big hugs. Missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
