1944 ~ JOHANNE GAETZ ~ 2021

Johanne Elizabeth Gaetz of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Leo Gaetz, passed away on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 at the age of 77 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Murray Gaetz and Kayley (Trent) Samoil; grandchildren, Parker Samoil and Chynna (Rhys Fingas) Samoil; brother, Clarence Tell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Johanne was predeceased by her parents, Jozef and Kathleen Tell. Johanne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and was enthusiastic about the times she could spend camping with her family. She had many talents and enjoyed various crafts and liked interior design. Johanne lived her life according to her Christian faith and values and was a devoted supporter of St. Thérèse and the mission of the Society of the Little Flower of Jesus. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, T1B 4V3, on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022, at 11:00 am with Fr. Iqbal Khurshid, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. The family respectfully requests that anyone planning to attend be double vaccinated. 1951 – JOHN A. HOFER – 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John A. Hofer of Boxelder, at the age of 70 years. A loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and a special friend to many. He was taken into the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whom he had a deep relationship with and was his dearest and nearest friend. He was the first he worshipped every morning and praised every evening. John was hog manager for 25 years then he became gardener and German school teacher for 22 years, His highlight was working with the bees and in the meat shop.
John will be greatly missed by the love of his life Annie. They were married for 48 wonderful years. Together God blessed them with three daughters, Rosa (Jerrylee) of Grandview, Marilyn (Rev. James) of Mayfield, Edna (Joseph) of Viking; nine grandchildren; seven sisters, seven brothers and a very close nephew Mark (Edna) of Boxelder. John was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, a granddaughter Sierra, two brothers, two sisters and three brothers-in-law.

DARRYL WHITTLETON

September 2, 1967 ~ December 28, 2021

Mr. Darryl Stanley Whittleton passed away in Redcliff, AB., on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 54 years. Darryl was born on, September 2, 1967, at the Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton, AB., where he lived with his mom, dad and younger brother until the age of four years. The family then moved to Kinistino, SK., briefly before moving to Prince Albert, SK., where he grew up and attended school. Darryl met the love of his life, Marnie Nyland and had two children, Trevor and Kristen. In 1989, Darryl became an apprentice in Heavy Duty Mechanics and in 2001, relocated to Medicine Hat with his family where he continued his career with Summit Motors as a Journeyman Mechanic until his passing. Darryl loved tinkering in his garage on the classic car he won, his truck, motorbike and anything else he could get his hands on. He was a jack-of-all trades. Darryl truly enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing or going for a good scenic truck drive or motorbike ride. Darryl loved all his family and friends and was there for anyone who needed help. He was proud of what he had accomplished in his life. Darryl was a solid man with a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by so many. We Love You! Darryl’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his children, Kristen (Justin) Allen and Trevor Whittleton; grandchildren, Kaidyn Allen and Keara Allen; siblings, Murray (Rita) Whittleton and their three children, Tyler, Brad and Natalie Chahoyer. He was predeceased by his father, Louis Stanley Alberati; mother, Jean Margaret Whittleton and fiance, Marnie Nyland. ERIC WILLIAM LEEKS

1963 ~ 2021

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Eric William Leeks, who passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of his family in Medicine Hat, AB, on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021, at the age of 58. Eric was born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan on January 27th, 1963, to Frederick and Phyllis (Denton) Leeks.
Eric leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Carolyn MacLean-Leeks along with his children, Devin (Amanda) Leeks and their children, Ryker and Amelia; Erika Leeks and her daughter, Vada; and Carleen Smyke and her children, Nikki, Dezmon, Kaiden and Aaryn all of Medicine Hat. He is also survived by his brothers, Russell Leeks (Weyburn, Sask) and Mark Leeks (Medicine Hat); his sister, Mary Gauthier (Medicine Hat); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Eric was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Tatum, Lynn McLeod and her husband, Harold; half-brother; Geoff Glasper; brother-in-law, Scott Gauthier; and parents-in-law, Alexander and Joan MacLean.
Eric grew up in Laporte, Sask. He moved to Medicine Hat with his family in 1979 and spent most of his life working in the oil field. He was a consultant up until his illness last year. He met the love of his life, Carolyn, in 1983 and they were married in July 2007 in Cape Breton. Eric loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved fishing, golfing, dancing and card games. He particularly enjoyed his trips to Cape Breton to visit Carolyn’s family and to British Columbia visiting Erika, along with camping and houseboating. Eric will also be missed by his best friend, his dog Diesel who he took on endless walks and drives.
