1923 ~ MARIE "MARY" SKJENNA ~ 2021

Mary Skjenna (nee Dziatkewich) died peacefully on September 12, 2021, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Mary was born on June 29th,1923, on the family homestead near Chilmark, Alberta, the fourth of seven children to Wasyl and Anastasia Dziatkewich. Mary left home at 17 years old living and working at various jobs in Buffalo, Cereal, and Calgary. She spent about a year in Ajax, Ontario working in an ammunition plant near the end of WWll. When Mary was working at the Colonel Belcher hospital in Calgary, she met and subsequently married William Spratt. In 1954, Mary married Olaf Skjenna moving to Buffalo, Alberta. After many years on the Skjenna farm Mary and Olaf retired to Medicine Hat. Mary enjoyed herself wherever she went with an enormous zest for life. Her first love was always her family, as all her children and grandchildren knew. She spent many hours enjoying herself while entertaining her grandchildren whether it was with displays of her tap dancing or producing freshly baked buns. Gardening was another pastime Mary took great pride in, she grew a bounteous vegetable garden on the farm and enjoyed her flowers when she moved into town. Medicine Hat also allowed Mary the opportunity to join a slow pitch team, compete in senior’s games, and do countless volunteering whether it was with the Legion, her church or any other good cause. She was always proud of and excited about all the activities she participated in and good deeds she carried out. Mary thrived anywhere she went, always willing to try new adventures, she was never late.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Bob Spratt (Linda), Mel Skjenna (Maggie Gamble), and Dennis Skjenna; six grandchildren, Jason Spratt (Sharla), Kyle Spratt (Candis), Joel Spratt (Morgan), Abaigeal Skjenna-Luoma (Darren), James Skjenna, and Kathleen Skjenna; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Johnston and Jennie Vincent, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Anastasia and Waysl; siblings, Tony, Tiny, Paul, and Sophie. A private family memorial was held on September 22, 2021 at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. 1927 ~ MARY "MOLLY" McCLEMENTS ~ 2021

It is with deep sadness the family of Molly McClements announce her passing on September 20 2021 at the age of 93 years. Her life was devoted to her Christian faith and her family.
Molly was born on December 26 1927, in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. She was the youngest of three children born to Archibald and Mary Hartin. Molly and her siblings all excelled at school. Molly went on to own and operate her own retail business and was respected for her friendly and professional manner. On September 8 1948 she married Robert ‘Bob’ McClements and they had one daughter, Thelma. Molly and Bob enjoyed many visits to Canada to visit their daughter and family in Canada. In 1984, they immigrated to Canada to be close to their family. They enthusiastically embraced their new home in Medicine Hat, Alberta. In 1987 Molly and Bob were delighted to become Canadian citizens and have their two grandsons in attendance. Molly was an avid reader, bird watcher and enjoyed walking the trails in Medicine Hat with five special friends, “The Merry Milers.” Molly was sociable, a great communicator and story teller. She was quick-witted, enjoyed listening to opera, classical and Andre Rieu’s orchestra. She had the flair for the dramatic and loved to entertain. Molly was an active member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, where many friendships were made. Her grandsons and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. Molly’s memory will live on in their hearts.
Left to cherish her memory, one daughter, Thelma Cowan; son-in-law, Robin Cowan and their two sons and their families; Robert (wife Katie) and their daughters, Trinity and Adara; Brian (wife Rochelle) and their children, Annie and Samuel; nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces; and friends here and abroad. Molly was predeceased by her husband (Bob) and soul mate of 51 years (Medicine Hat); sister, Agnes McWilliams; brother-in-law, Harry McWIlliams; and nephew, Daryl McWilliams (all from Ontario). Also predeceased by brother, Archie Hartin and his first wife, Maisie, and his second wife, Kathleen.
Thank you to the staff of South Country Village, Sunny Side for the wonderful care Mom received. Due to COVID-19, a private service will be held at Hillside Cemetery with Rev. R. 1935 – FAY BRUNNER – 2021

Fay Marie Brunner of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Alf Brunner, passed away on Saturday August 28, 2021, at the age of 86 years.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Due to the restrictions brought forward by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, indoor public gatherings are to be kept to 50 people. Masks are mandatory. The service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home YouTube page. The video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time and will remain on the YouTube page for future viewing. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. IRENE AMELIA HAYWARD

July 1, 1924 ~ September 13, 2021

Mrs. Irene Amelia Hayward, beloved wife of the late Mr. Norman Hayward, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, September 13, 2021, at the age of 97 years. Irene leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Vernon (Carol) Hayward, Gloria (Doug) Van Riper and Sharon Hayward (Graham Wilson); six grandchildren, Kevin (Pam) Hayward, Kenny (Kendra) Hayward, Bradley (Jenny) Hayward, Lona Meier, Lori (Gareth) Barnes and Melissa (Stephen) Miller; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Olive Herman as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extend family. Along with her husband, Irene was predeceased by her brothers, David, Robert and Lawrence Herman. Irene was born on the family farm at Eagle Butte on July 1, 1924, to proud parents, Edward and Amelia Herman (nee Rath). She met Norman, an Airforce Pilot from Britain, and they were later married on July 29, 1944. Shortly after their marriage, Irene worked for Medalta Potteries for a period time before moving on to waitressing at Kresges where she made numerous life-long friendships. Irene and Norm travelled extensively together throughout the years, including trips to Britain, Mexico, Hawaii and Italy (just to name a few). After Norm’s passing, Irene joined the Veiner Centre where she enjoyed dancing and playing cards as much as 5 days a week! Her greatest joy in life came from time spent with her children and grandchildren and she enjoyed sharing her great sense of humour with them. A Private gathering of family in celebration of Irene’s life will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting http://www.cooksouthland.com).
