1937 – RALPH DEERING – 2021 Ralph Richard Deering of Medicine Hat, passed away at Sunnyside Nursing Home on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of the late Mary Ann Deering. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister Margaret Sturm and her two sons Robert Sturm and Brian Sturm; Brian’s two sons, Marcus and Joe and Ralph’s good friends Gary and Norma Demke. Ralph was predeceased by his parents Robert and Lydia Deering and his wife Mary Ann. He was born and raised on the family farm in the Woolchester district. After leaving the farm he worked a few jobs before starting at Joyline where he worked in the mechanic shop for many years, fixing whatever needed to be fixed. Ralph enjoyed playing cards and marbles; fishing was his favorite pastime. He also enjoyed watching movies. He had all kinds of John Wayne movies and many other westerns. Ralph was proud to have been a Lifetime Member of the Redcliff Lions Club. A special thank you goes out to all the staff, doctors and nurses at the Wellington and Sunnyside for the great care given to Ralph. Rest in peace Ralph, there is no more pain. 1941 ~ PIUS GAETZ ~ 2021 Pius Gaetz, beloved husband of 57 years to Frances Gaetz, passed away on Monday April 5, 2021. He had celebrated his 80th birthday on February 9, 2021 in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Pius will be lovingly remembered by his children, Chris (Claudine) Gaetz, Mark Gaetz and Tracy (Gordon) Reid; grandchildren, Brittany Gaetz (Keagan Barker), Sean Gaetz (Alissa Fitzsimmons), Stephanie Gaetz (Derek Friesen), Tradon Reid (Kylie Sakino), Kasandra Reid, Anthony Gaetz (Devon Carlson); brothers, Ray (Gladys) Gaetz, Leo (Johanne) Gaetz and Jim (Rachel) Gaetz; sisters, Kay Bowes and Shirley (Howard) Sharpe; brothers-in-law, Frank Besplug, Tony (Rose) Lanz, Johnny (Phyllis) Lanz, Eddie (Geri) Lanz, and Kathy (Russ Peterson); sisters-in-law, Anne Gaetz, Ruth Gaetz, Penny Gaetz, Rose Lanz, Irene Lanz, Joan Lanz, Penny Lanz, and Mary Bitz. Pius was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Mary Gaetz; in-laws, Erasmus and Katherine Lanz; grandson, baby Andrew; brothers, Martin Gaetz, Robert Gaetz and Joe Gaetz; sisters, Rosemary Besplug and Sister Bernadette “Theresa” Gaetz; daughter-in-law, Jackie Gaetz; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Veronica (Tim) Sehn; Basil Bowes, Maggie (Mel) Hasper, Frank Lanz, Balzar Lanz, Leo Lanz, Ben Lanz and Jerry Bitz. Pius was born and raised in Medicine Hat and lived here for most of his life except for a brief move to Hanna, Alberta. He was a Journeyman Plumber and Gas fitter, owning his own company, Pius’s Plumbing, as well as working for other companies throughout his career. There was nothing that Pius could not accomplish when he set his mind to it. He built two houses from top to bottom for his family, with very minimal help and so much love. Pius’s love for music had him learning how to play the banjo on his own, then playing with his band members in Medicine Hat and surrounding areas. Everywhere that Pius went, his jokes and laughter followed him. He loved camping in Elkwater overflow with all Frances’ family in one big circle. A high point of their travel was to go to wherever Tracy and Gordon were living to spend time with them and their children. One of their favorite destinations with them was Disneyland. Frances and Pius were also able to travel to various destinations with family and friends. In later years, the trailer made its way to Rattlesnake Park, where golf carts and banjo playing had a whole new meaning. Pius was extremely proud of his grandchildren and was very ecstatic to find out that he had a great grandchild on the way this year. His love for family will be continued on through his children and grandchildren. The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff from 2 North at the Hospital who took outstanding care of Pius. 1955 – GLEN NUNWEILER – 2021 Glen Allan Nunweiler, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the age of 65 years, beloved husband of Faye Nunweiler of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, Stacey Nunweiler (Tristan Perry), Cindy (Paul) Raiwet and Scott (Shelly) Nunweiler; eight grandchildren, Maheer, Hannah, Katelyn, Owen, Luke, Logan, Jackson and Madisen. He was predeceased by his parents Anne and Fred Nunweiler. Born on July 6, 1955 in Eatonia, Saskatchewan, Glen was raised on a grain farm a mile west of Laporte, Saskatchewan. Following high School he attended the University of Saskatoon where he met his wife, Faye. They married on October 2, 1976 and he completed his University schooling in 1978. They returned to the farm where they raised their three children; Stacey was born in 1979, Cindy in 1982 and Scott in 1983. In 1993, they moved to Kindersley to be closer to their off the farm jobs. Along with farming, Glen worked at Sask Pension in the winter. In 2011, Glen retired from farming and they moved to Medicine Hat where they have resided since. While living in Medicine Hat, he enjoyed biking, golfing, and wine with Faye at 5 o’clock. His favorite time was spent with his family in Elbow at the cabin as well as travelling. He also loved woodworking and boating. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.

1956 ~ LOUISE SCHAUFERT ~ 2021 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Louise Mary Schaufert on Sunday, April 4th, 2021 at the age of 64 years. She was particularly fond of the friends she made during her extensive career at Sears, and then most recently during her time that she worked at the South Country Co-op Agro Centre. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and could most often be found devoting her time to her flower garden. Louise was a wonderful person and she loved spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and staff at Carmel Hospice for the compassionate care shown during her final days. BRANDON DIRK SVEUM June 3, 1997 ~ March 31, 2021 It is with profound sadness that the family of Brandon Sveum announce the passing of their beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend. He was taken unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the age of 23 years. Along with his father, Kelly Sveum (Brenda) and mother, Bess Sveum (Kyle), Brandon’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of his three brothers, Jeffery, Jared and Bradley as well as countless uncles, aunts, cousins, grandmothers and friends. Brandon was born in Bonnyville, Alberta and raised in Medicine Hat. He started playing football at the age of 9 and played each season thereafter with his final season being his grade 12 year with the Medicine Hat Mohawks. He loved the game as well as the comradery and the people who played it. Along with those in football, Brandon had many friends he kept in touch with while playing video games with his brothers. He was kind hearted with a gentle, selfless nature and he will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him. A celebration of Brandon’s life will be held in the coming months with further announcements at that time. MELVIN CLIFFORD ROTH November 11, 1930 – April 5, 2021
Melvin C. Roth, the son of William and Mary Roth of Medicine Hat, died peacefully on April 5, 2021 at 90 years old. A long time resident of the Medicine Hat area he was raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, near Fox Valley where his Romanian-German parents and grandparents settled after the turn of the 20th century.
He was devoted to providing for his family, his loving wife June (Howitt), and his children. He worked at the Redcliff Glass Factory, as a machinist apprenticing through the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, at the Western Co-op Fertilizer plant, and later in life as a realtor.
But his real passion was the outdoors, nature, and country life on their farms raising hay crops, livestock, and many horses, like his father before him. He planted and nurtured hundreds if not thousands of trees on the land he cared for, inheriting his very green thumb from his mother, Mary.
No one who met Melvin forgot his sense of humor, and most were left laughing after spending a few moments with him. He loved a good joke and had many dear friends. After retirement he would entertain his friends and acquaintances at talent shows, playing music, and performing amateur comedy routines.
He volunteered at and supported his church, St. Paul’s Lutheran, and Boy Scouts of Canada. He enjoyed being a summer campground host at The Boat Club and he fished, hunted, and hiked with his friends, children and grandchildren until he was well into his 80s.
He leaves his four children; Ron (Patty), Wes (Tannis), Carla (Merritt), and Wynne (Martin); his brother, Irvin (Lee) Roth; sisters, Verna Parker and Naomi (Gary) Norman. Melvin was pre-deceased by his loving wife, June after 62 years of marriage; his son, Paul; his elder brother, Albert; and his brother-in-law Lyle (Verna).
He also leaves six grandchildren, Tylor, Melissa (John), Jillian (Sai), Kelsie (Cole), Alexa (Scott), and Emerson and four great grandchildren, Brayden, Asher, Austin, and Bennett.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic a private family memorial will be held at a later date.

SAVANNA RAE MAGOTIAUX 1995 – 2021 It is with profound sadness that the family of Savanna Rae Magotiaux, 26, announce her sudden passing, on April 5, 2021.
Savanna was born March 18th, 1995, and quite literally took the life ahead of her by storm. No words could do her impassioned and wild presence justice. She attended school in Seven Persons and Eagle Butte and became involved in the 4H and rodeo community at an early age. She was also involved with the United Conservatory of Music, which sparked her fire for all things musical.
Savvy had an immeasurable passion for music, and could usually be found singing, dancing, or playing piano or guitar. If you were so lucky to bump into her at a local concert, you could find her front-row centre swaying back and forth or trying to start a mosh pit with a big smile on her face. She was known to carry a guitar around with her most of the time. Whether it was a plastic dime-store knockoff or a well-crafted acoustic, she played and treasured it like the last instrument on earth. This is how she treated people as well – it didn’t matter who you were or where you came from, she would take the time to know you, listen to you, and relate on a deep level. She will be fondly remembered as a sweetheart who wanted the best for others, even if it meant sacrificing her own interests. She loved to laugh, she loved to be weird, and she loved everyone.
Savanna is predeceased by her cousins, Travis Flannery and Kyle Magotiaux; and her grandfather, Octave Magotiaux. She is survived by her parents, Ray & Ronna; her siblings, Dayton and Desiree; and her grandparents, Irene Magotiaux and Patricia & Ron Gebhardt. She will be dearly missed by her numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, fellow musicians, favourite weirdos and other creatures.
At this time, there will be no service due to COVID regulations. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. WILLIAM LALONDE April 3, 1944 – April 5, 2021
William "Bill" LaLonde of Medicine Hat, AB passed away on Monday April 5, 2021 at 77 years of age. Born in Moose Jaw, SK, Bill moved to Medicine Hat in 1969. He was a mechanic by trade, but skilled in so many areas, always coming up with a new project or a visionary new design. He had a mischievous sense of humor, homespun phrases, and always loved a good deal. He was happiest when building and creating something new or having a visit at the door. Bill was predeceased by his father Joseph in 1946; his mother, Helen in 2009; his sister, Pegg Hamel in in 1997; and his brothers, Tom LaLonde in 2000 and Bob LaLonde in 2012. He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Lois Franks, Dort May, and Yvonne (Ralph) Davidson; his daughters, Lori (Robert) Fraser, Susan (Duke) Dorohoy, and Sandra LaLonde (Eric Kirol); his grandchildren, Dayna Heimark, Tylan (Christine) Dorohoy, Emily Fraser, Jonathan Dorohoy, Ian Fraser, and Benjamin Dorohoy; his great-grandchildren, Shyanne, Taiya, Cole, Axle, and Raelee; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
