1924 ~ STEVE UNGER ~ 2020

Steve Unger of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the age of 96 years, beloved husband of the late Edna Unger. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Michael, Barry (Vickie) and Neil (Noel); ten grandchildren and their families: Tatum (Tyson) (Ryker, Chloe and Presley); Mikalene; Tikal (Mustapha); Schon (Lesley) (Cole, Emily); Julie (Trevor) (Baylee); Tiffany (Brett) (Lily, Cooper); Travis (Brandon) (Devon, Dion); Ryan (Kerri) (Finlay); Kyle; Danielle (Kyle) (Porter); three sisters, Gladys Chapman, Eva (Frank) Welfl and Joan (Dale) Willard and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edna, his parents Minnie and Frank Unger and seven brothers, Pete, Percy (WWII), Mervin, Dave, Archie, Eddie and Ken; four sisters Anne, Tina, Amanda and Jean. Steve was born at Laird, Saskatchewan September 4, 1924. Steve’s family moved to Wembley, Alberta when he was young and grew up on the family farm homestead. He later came to Medicine Hat to work and then met Edna, the love of his life, whom he married and raised their family together. Steve and Edna were married for 63 years until Edna’s passing February 1, 2013. Thank you to all at the Cypress View Home staff and the residents who cared for Steve while he lived there and a special heartfelt thank you to all at St. Joseph’s Home for their wonderful care for Steve in his final days. 1948 ~ SANDRA LEE KOHLS ~ 2020

Sandra Lee Kohls of Redcliff, AB passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the age of 72 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Larry Kohls; brother, Donald (Janine) Sullivan; sister, Norma Kay Bell. Sandra was predeceased by her parents, George and Lily Sullivan and her brother, Greg Sullivan. Mary Jean Catherine Thompson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Barry Thompson, passed away on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 at the age of 64 years. Mary Jean leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Barry; children, Mike (Michelle) Long, Dave Long, Greg Thompson (Serenity Marr) and Megan Thompson (Chandler Irvin); grandson, Barrett; mother, Katherine Bowes; brother, Bob Bowes; sisters, Joan (Brad) Cox and Sandy Brown; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Jean was predeceased by her father, Bazil Bowes and her sister, Pat Bowes. BROWN

Blanche Emily Brown, at age 74, of Burstall SK, has passed away 11 December 2020 with her family by her side. She was born to parents, Eldon and Emaleta (Toots) Brown, 23 November 1946 and was raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta and attended Medicine Hat High School. She married the late Wayne Davidson on 6 February 1965. Blanche is survived by her four children: Darren (Marlene) Davidson, Stacey Davidson, Corey (Lisa) Davidson, Scott (Linda) Davidson. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Blanche was a very strong and independent woman who always found the means to provide for her 4 boys. Although times were sometimes tough, she always made time to take her boys camping, cross country skiing, fishing and numerous sports. She had many talents and jobs, including volunteer firefighter, Special Needs Teaching Assistant, and even the Mayor of Irvine AB for a short time. In the past few years, even though she was challenged with crippling arthritis, she was always busy sewing, baking and renovating her house with her sassy cat underfoot!

GORDON BARRY

1939 ~ 2020

Mr. W. Gordon Barry passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at the age of 81 years. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Darcy, Aaron and Viki; their mother, Dawna; daughter-in-law, Wynter; grandson, Trent as well as his brother, Morley. He was predeceased by his son, Lee and his sister, Lorna.  Gordon was born and raised on the family homestead in Empress and later bought the homestead at Little Smokey where he loved the cattle and the way of the land where he could hunt and fish at his leisure. He was also a certified blacksmith, machinist and welder by trade. In his later years, Gordon was a  member of the Lapidary Club as he loved rocks and going for coffee with his friends. Gordon’s love of storytelling will be missed! Barry will be laid to rest beside his son in the Empress Cemetery at a later date.
