1936 ~ VIOLET “VI” ANTONIUK ~ 2019

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Violet leaves to mourn her daughters, Cheryl Lewis (Robert) and Laurie Blaney (Reg) as well as her beloved granddaughters, Carrie Lewis, Kristi Lewis, Jillian Frankson (Ryan) and Paige Blaney (Kyle Brown). She is survived by two sisters, Alice Heinrich and Anne Durr, and many nieces and nephews. Violet was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Donald, as well as six brothers and two sisters.
Violet was a remarkable person who was truly a modern woman. She grew up in tough times on a farm near Golden Prairie and later moved to Medicine Hat to attend secondary school. Vi was an excellent student and excelled in her studies and sports. Lack of funds did not permit the fulfillment of her dream of becoming a teacher. Instead, after marriage, Vi worked full time as a bookkeeper for various dairies while raising two daughters to become independent women. She instilled in them a hard work ethic and a love of learning; with her support always a constant, both became teachers. An excellent cook, Vi made home-cooked meals and baked pies that were the envy of the town of Redcliff. She hosted family and friends for every holiday occasion. Her house was always meticulous as were her large vegetable gardens and flower beds. She like to read mysteries and watch curling and hockey and to play cards; she travelled extensively while good health permitted. Violet was a very sociable person who loved to chat. Parties, music, and dancing filled Saturday nights. She and her sisters, all with beautiful voices, sang like angels, harmonizing as their brothers played musical instruments. For the last three years, her favourite evenings at the Wellington were spent listening to old time bands that played for the residents. When her granddaughters were born, Vi’s heart blossomed with her love for them and continued to grow as they did. She cuddled and coddled them from cradle to grown young ladies. Their best memories include visits to grandpa’s and grandma’s house. A private celebration of Violet’s life will be held at al later date. Donations in Violet’s name may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Violet Antoniuk. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to

DAVID SEKERAK

1963 – 2019
David William Sekerak, passed away in Bow Island on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the age of 56 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Christian Community Church, 415 – 4 Avenue, Burdett on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.
David is survived by his aunt Mavis (Bob) Hemming of Guelph, Ontario; uncles Sid Ward of Chilliwack, British Columbia and Lionel Ward of Port Moody, British Columbia; brother-in-law Larry Davis, Nicole Davis (daughter of Theresa), her husband Jamie Templeman and their three children Alecia (Lily), Ethan and Rylan.
He was predeceased by his parents Hank and Carol Sekerak and by his brother Stephen Sekerak and his sister Theresa Davis.
David was born in Galt, Ontario on April 15, 1963. He was the third child born to Hank and Carol, joining Stephen and Theresa, his older siblings. He shared how he nearly died at birth, being a ‘blue baby’, and how he needed many blood transfusions to get a start in this life.
David grew up on an acreage and his love of nature and gardening took root. He told how his dad taught him so much and the deep love and respect he had for him in his automotive sales career. He was always the best and first in sales!
David became a master electrician and was involved in many large Alberta projects. The day after he called his dad to tell him that he earned his ticket, his father suffered a heart attack and died. He later devoted his attentions to his mother Carol and sister Theresa. When Carol was weakening, David was there to feed her and was very attentive to her in Long term care.
David was always full of will and determination. Five years ago, he suffered a stroke/head injury and he spent months in the hospital and was not expected to live. He walked and talked again! He had a smile that would melt any resistance. David found a surrogate family with his church friends. They helped him with home construction projects and took him to many treatments and doctors’ visits following his cancer diagnosis. His friend Dallas was also a great chauffeur. The Homecare and the Family and Community Support Services ‘girls’ kept him comfy at home where he always wanted to be.
David taught us so much in his short life. He will be missed!

WICKENHEISER

Sadness overwhelms us as we announce our Mother’s earthly journey is now complete. But our hearts are filled with joy for we know she was greeted at the gates of Heaven by the open embrace of her beloved husband Ben and the warm smiles of brothers, sisters, family, in-laws and friends all gone before. Margaret Gertrude Wickenheiser was called home on November 30, 2019 in her 95th year. Born to Jacob and Brigetta Wist on January 20, 1924 she was 9th in a family of 12, enjoying life with five sisters and six brothers, on the family farm at Liebenthal, Saskatchewan. She leaves to treasure her memory her daughter Coreen Wickenheiser (Brian Doll) and her children Karleen Schenkey (Jeff) and Nolan; Kasey Schenkey (Jason Forsyth) and their children Gabrielle, Riley and Christina; Kaden Schenkey (Ginger) and their children Kaydo, Knox and baby girl due February; her son Jeff (Valerie) Wickenheiser and their sons Byron (Andrea) Wickenheiser and their children Zac and Chase; and Brayden (Melissa) Wickenheiser. Also left to remember are sisters Lucy Rollheiser and Rose Geiger, in-laws Mike Wickenheiser and Jean Fortney and Brian’s family, Adrian (Nicole) and their daughter Lilian; Allyson and her son Rylan, and Ian Doll. Marge began her teaching career at the tender age of 19, starting with several one room schools in Saskatchewan, as well as Golden Prairie and Schuler Alberta with a passion for Grade One and Kindergarten. Many young minds were shaped and challenged by the art of her firm yet gentle instruction. In 1946 she met and married her husband Bernard Wickenheiser who loved, respected and adored her for 43 years. Together they operated the family farm west of Golden Prairie, actively and selflessly donating their energies to the community of Bitter Lake through sporting events, dances, 4-H and the Bitter Lake Trail Ride. Through her fierce quest for independence she drove until the age of 90, and lived in her own home ‘til 93. She generously bequeathed her biting wit, contagious smile and indelible humor to generations of an adoring family. In keeping with her Wist family tradition, card playing and games were fiercely competitive with “trash-talk” always a necessary element. Casino visits and Bingo were equally as important in fueling her winning nature. Her faith was strong and decisive and she remained dedicated to the Catholic Women’s League of Canada for over 60 years.
