CARL JEROME ALLARD

August 16, 1953 ~ October 27, 2019

On October 27, 2019, Carl Allard, Low Life Biker Trash and soul mate to Kelly, is Riding Free. A hard man to kill, medical staff dubbed him ‘The Miracle Man’. Carl passed away from esophageal cancer, his second cancer since 1989. An only child born in Empress, AB., Carl spawned nine offspring; Kelci (Clay), Lynsey (Rick), Megan (Peter), Andy (Kyla), Dustin, Arlen (Krissy), Tedd, Joe (Sylvie) and Renee many grandchildren and even a great-grandchild. Carl worked on the family farm as a child running all kinds of equipment at a young age. He loved being an equipment operator and especially using the high hoe. Carl enjoyed long haul trucking with over 2 million miles under his belt. Kelly started trucking with him when the kids moved out, but until then they relied on their Radar Love. Carl and Kelly had their first date 31 years ago, they have been together ever since. Carl even threw away his Little Black Book. The third marriage was the last. They met when Kelly lived right next door to his first ex-wife. Kelly had two kids, Carl adopted them. He stepped in when the bio-dad stepped out. Carl taught Kelly how to ride motorcycle bringing out the Crazy Biker Bitch in her and she brought out the Crazy Cat Man in him. Their love for each other was legendary; he was her Sweet Cheeks and she was his Boo Angel. Carl had many sides; wild, passionate, tender, mischievous and loving.  He was so proud to ride beside Kelly and his kids, most embracing the Biker Lifestyle. He had a way with people, charming many women. Upon meeting him, Kelly’s grandmother told her she would not worry about Kelly anymore. Carl loved motorcycles, he built his first Harley with his dad at the age of 12. He did things his way, far too independent to join a club. The only rules he followed were his own, the only opinion that mattered were his and Kelly’s. Carl loved kids, he melted around babies. An incredible man, husband and father, man enough to show his feelings. Carl loved animals and would not stand idly by when people were cruel, some learned a very painful lesson. While the world is a lesser place by his absence, heaven / the afterlife / whatever; is a much brighter, far more interesting place. As Carl would say, !!!Freedom!!!

“Ride Free My Love, I will take you with me wherever I go. You always told people that I ‘had your six’, now you will have mine as you watch over me”.

No service will be held. Go to the “Carl Allard Virtual Memorial” page on Facebook. In lieu of flowers donate to Critters, Cancer, Palliative Care or any Biker Charity Run. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at http://www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is

DAISY BEHIEL

Cook’s lobby was bustling with conversation as family greeted friends who joined them to celebrate the life of a remarkable lady, Daisy Behiel. Her heart-warming smile will not soon be forgotten.

She loved a good joke,
A chance to laugh and smile,
Family was always first,
She went that ‘extra mile’.

Her Life Lived…
Her Life Cherished…
Her Life Honoured.

ROBERT BLOCK

(August 11, 1920 – October 28, 2019)

Oh, what a life! Bob Block lived a rich and full life that, if he could have chosen, would have been absent of fools (with an exception for those who played the role on stage).
Bob was born in London, an only child to Andrew and Tynia and quickly became immersed in his father’s world of rare books, which would be a central part of his life. His working life began (and ended) in public libraries, starting at St. Pancras in London.
He served in the RAF in WWII, with such incredible luck that he was posted to Calgary rather than Libya, crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth, a ship with the horsepower to outrun German U-Boats lying in wait in the north Atlantic and had his late-war combat mission to Japan rerouted to Hong Kong after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led to Japan’s surrender.
His charmed life continued in Canada. He met Doris Ryer (1921-2004) in Calgary, married in 1944 and then contributed extensively to the Canadian baby boom, with six children: Eva (Rick), David (Rebecca), Naomi (Gary), Leslie (Grace), Susan and Peter (Barb) born over the next 18 years and grandchildren and great grandchildren following ever since.
His love of the arts (which he credits to his mother’s influence) saw him run music societies during the war, “star” on stage, making his own contribution to the world’s longest running play, The Mousetrap (performing in Medicine Hat, not London), lead the film society in Edmonton, and host radio and TV shows on books and the arts in Medicine Hat.
His “formal” career included developing recreation programs (in Kitimat and Edmonton) and running the Medicine Hat Public Library (twice). His post-retirement career was devoted to taking over his father’s antiquarian book business, with regular pilgrimages back to London to source first editions and unique finds and then engage his global network of collectors with his impressive trove of rarities. For Bob, books represented ideas and free thinking and the more exchange of these, the better.
While he led many associations and served as a school trustee in Medicine Hat, he would shudder at being labelled a “pillar of the community”. He was a champion of new, different and fresh – accepting of all and begrudging only fools and those resistant to change. He embodied eclecticism – a love of Shakespeare and Beethoven was matched by an equal admiration of Joe Orton and Pink Floyd. He left a little of himself (both good and bad) in each of his children, all of whom will have their own lifetime of memories to cherish.
A graveside service for Bob is being planned for the spring of 2020, in his 100th year. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Bob Block, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.
