She also leaves to cherish her memory her two children Tony Russell and his children Caitlin and Ryan, Roxanne Russell and her children Jaerett and Jorja; she is also survived by Bill’s children Leona Collette (Wesley Rhodes), Boyd Fiesel, Sherry (Joe) Kelly, Dwayne (Dawna) Fiesel; Bill’s numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother Michael Pigott. She was predeceased by her first husband Dale Russell on July 15, 2006, her parents Frances “Dora” and Maurice Pigott, and one son Jeffery. Vivien was born September 22, 1945 in South-End-On-Sea, Essex. After WWII, along with her family, they relocated to Kokomo, Indiana and then finally Medicine Hat. Many of her aunts and uncles found new homes in Alberta and southern Saskatchewan. Her parents loved the gardens in Medicine Hat when visiting which reminded them of England. Mom graduated from McCoy High School in 1963 and found various bookkeeping jobs and then worked as a clerk at Northwest-Nitro Fertilizer plant. This is where she first met Dale and asked him out on a badminton date. They were married in 1966 and enjoyed 39 years together. In 1977, they moved to the small town of Burstall, and after mom’s initial hesitation of small town living, she embraced the new friendships and community. It is here where Tony and Roxanne were raised. She was truly blessed to find love a second time and married Bill in 2010.
Vivien loved being a stay at home mom, being active in her church and contributing to the community. She loved the volunteerism activities of her new home town. Mom was extremely active in the Ladies Auxiliary, community fundraising, and was a founding member of the Burstall Welcome Wagon committee. Volunteering was something very important to her. Mom had a strong faith and thoroughly enjoyed her involvement with many of St. Michael’s Parish celebrations.
Mom’s hobbies included crafting, playing cards, entertaining friends with dinners, curling, and swimming in the summers. She was also quite athletic in her younger years with track and field. Mom was an excellent bowler and was especially hard to beat in table tennis. Camping and fishing were centre pieces of summer, travelling all over Canada and the United Sates. This is something she dearly enjoyed sharing with her grandkids. The grandkids loved baking and decorating her honey cookies and butterhorns. Mom’s famous bun recipe will live on forever.
