1948 ~ RITA KOHLMAN ~ 2019

Rita Kohlman of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, February 15th, 2019 at the age of 70 years. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Karen Kohlman and Lois Nozewski; grandchildren, Anna and Nick; brothers, John (Gloria), Paul (Carolyn), Peter (Penny) and Morris (Rene); sisters, Mary, Olive (George), Cathy (Cliff), Anne, Susan (Nigel), Margaret (Mel), Theresa (Dean), Ellen, Louise (Adrian), and Isabel (Glen); and numerous nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Nick Kohlman; parents, John and Elizabeth Donovan; partner, John McKenna; son in-law, Andrzej Nozewski; and sisters, Elaine and Bernadette. Rita was born on May 9th, 1948 in Maidstone, SK and was raised on the family farm in Waseca, SK. She graduated from Vermillion College in 1966. The following year she married Nick, and together they raised their family in Hughenden, Alberta. In 1990, they moved to Medicine Hat, AB. After Nick’s passing in 1998, she continued to work in Medicine Hat until her retirement. She met John and then moved to Lethbridge until his passing in 2017. Rita loved to dance; taking lessons, teaching others, and spending as much time as she could on the dance floor. Rita believed her precious gift was time spent with family and friends. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed every moment they spent together. She leaves behind many wonderful memories for her friends and family to treasure. Allan ‘Al” Nelson La Trace passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the age of 62 years. Al is survived by two sisters, Nadine and Alana and his brother, Dean. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Sandy La Trace of Fort Saskatchewan. ANITA ‘RUSTY’ REGAN

1929 ~ 2019

Mrs. Anita “Rusty” Regan, beloved wife of the late Mark Regan, passed away at the River Ridge Senior’s Village in Medicine Hat on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the age of 89 years. Rusty was born on October 20, 1929, in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, a daughter to John and Frances Ryan. Rusty grew up in Lake Lenore before moving to Saskatoon where she received her schooling to become a nurse. It was during her time there, that she met her future husband, Mark. They spent their years together with their family, moving to numerous locations throughout Canada and Europe. During Rusty’s younger years, she enjoyed speed skating and danced whenever she could. Rusty was a loving, caring and hardworking lady and spent many dedicated years working at CFB Suffield. She was a wonderful cook and will be fondly remembered for her legendary cinnamon buns and delicious strudels! Rusty will be cherished in the hearts of her family including her children, Dawn Link, Tim (Donna) Regan and Tammi (David) Adams; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Eileen Ryan. Shane Robert Ashby passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the age of 41 years, beloved husband of Kristen Ashby of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Bob and Kim Ashby; his son Brendan Ashby; and Brendan’s mother, Monica Miller; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Shane had a magnetic personality and with his larger than life presence. He pulled everyone together defying all limits to live life to the fullest, making the best of every minute of every day. For those closest to him, Shane took pride in doing everything within his power to ensure you were happy and had everything you could ever want and more. BOECHLER, LILLIAN (NEE WENIGER)

1932-2019
Lillian passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Edmonton General Palliative Care Unit 9Y in Edmonton. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie in 2006; her brother and five sisters. She leaves to cherish her daughter, Kathleen (Peter); sons, Douglas (Patricia), David (Kelly), Darrell (Deanna), and Geoffrey (Diane); grandchildren, Jason (Lindsay), Ryan (Shannon), Jarred (Amanda), Rikki (Dave), Kirk (Courtney), Keelin, Kenna, Jordan and Logan; and great grandchildren, Tylan, Natalya, Wyatt, Grayson, Hannah and Alexandria. Lillian is also survived by one sister, Ida Zerr; and one brother-in-law, Dick Kornelson and one sister-in-law, Eve Haakonsen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mom was born and raised in Allan, Saskatchewan, the youngest of eight children, born to J.J. and Matilda Weninger. Upon graduation she moved to Saskatoon and took her nurses training at St. Pauls Hospital. In 1956 she married Ernie Boechler. With Ernie being with the RCMP, his career took them to Creston, Nelson, Kamloops, from there they moved to Coquitlam B.C., Edmonton and Red Deer AB. Not only was mom a very much hands on mom but she also worked as the nurse in Woodward's store in Kamloops. Mom also did some nursing in an old folk's home in Coquitlam; she was a sales clerk in Red Deer and mom was also an Insurance Company's nurse who went to the homes to get the medical history of their clients. Retirement brought mom and dad back to Saskatoon, then to Edmonton and once again back to Saskatoon. After dad passed away mom moved to Medicine Hat for ten years. Mom's last two years were spent in Edmonton. At all of these various places mom volunteered on the condo boards, called bingo, was in the church choir and even sang in a trio with some very dear friends. She was also a lifelong member of the CWL. Besides enjoying camping in their 5th wheel camper for almost 20 years, mom was the biggest fan of her children, then grandchildren, watching and cheering them on in whatever sport they were playing. Mom also loved all kinds of card games, painting, singing and baking. Family wishes to thank the staff at the Edmonton General Unit 9Y for their wonderful care. Adeline Helen Grona passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the age of 83 years, beloved wife of the late John Grona. Mom loved her big family very much, ensuring all gatherings were special celebrations. She even chose Family Day to start her next journey. HARRISON

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sidney Wade Harrison wish to announce his passing on February 13, 2019 in Kauai, in the sunshine, listening to the Beatles. Sid is predeceased by his Mother (Bertha), his father (Hugh), brother-in-law Kurt Holst, and sister-in-law Jean Harrison. He is survived by his best friend and wife Maggie, children Morgan (Jen), Mel (Jana), Sarah (Michael), Connor, Evan; his grandchildren Aubrey, Blake, Owen, Nora, Ethan, Evelyn; his siblings Penny Holst, Gary, Wayne (Brenda), and sister-in-law Tricia Leidal (Brad). Sid was born and raised in Medicine Hat, the youngest child of Bertha and Hugh. He and Maggie built a life together after they met in 1974. They married in 1979 and grew their family when they had Morgan and Sarah. In 1984, at age 31 with two children, Sid decided to return to school to become a physician. He attended the Medicine Hat College, then medical school at the University of Alberta and Family Medicine Residency in Edmonton. Sid and family moved back to Medicine Hat in 1992 to start his independent family practice. Sid and Maggie welcomed Connor, and then Evan in the years to follow. Sid built a huge and fulfilling family practice, that defined his life over the next 26 years. He delivered hundreds of babies, and was a true family doctor. In 1999, Mel moved in to complete the Harrison brood. With birds, hamsters, cats, and dogs it was a busy and wonderful home. Sid loved travel, wine, golf, food, fast cars and most of all family. Thanks cannot express the gratitude Sid and his family felt towards the many compassionate nurses, pharmacists and physicians who helped care for him. In particular, Dr. Tom Mohanraj, Dr. Josh Foley and Dr. Soundouss Raissouni, moved gracefully from colleagues to caregiver; Sid appreciated their support in these difficult months. ROTH

Ida Roth, 96, formerly of Medicine Hat, AB, died peacefully in her sleep on February 15, 2019. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ben Roth of Medicine Hat. She is also predeceased by son-in-law, Victor Specht, grandson, Geoffrey Specht, sisters, Edna Thome and Esther Hauck, and brother Walter Grams. A loving mother and homemaker, Ida was a fantastic cook and baker. She loved to bake for her family and friends. Everyone who knew her loved the treats (especially the Kuchen) she set before them. Alongside her husband, Ben, she produced a bountiful garden and spent many hours canning and freezing vegetables. She was also a crafter and was best known for her beautiful crocheted Afghans. Family was Ida’s passion and delight. She cherished every moment with them and was a great listener. She gave the best hugs and always filled the room with love. Everyone was special to her and she made sure they knew it. Ida is survived by her four loving daughters, Carolynn Specht, Donnalee Campbell (Ken), Judy Wood (Leonard), Renee Moody (John); seven grandchildren, Nancy Power (Fred), Kory Campbell (Vanessa), Drew Campbell (Bree), Alex Wood, Megan Wolfe (Jason), Ben Moody and Richard Moody as well as seven great grandchildren; Kayden, Riley, Sam, Xander, Kynlee, Sawyer and Lennox. SHIRLEY ANNE ELGIE

Mrs. Shirley Anne Elgie, beloved wife of the late Mr. Norman Elgie, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Friday, February 15, 2019, at the age of 70 years. Shirley was born, raised and schooled in the Taber, AB., area. She married Norman Leslie Elgie on July 8, 1967, and shared 27 years of marriage until his passing in 1994. Shirley worked at Domglas, Medalta Potteries, Roses Solo Store, AG Foods and with Alberta Health Services for 25 years. She was kind, loving, optimistic, friendly and treasured the people around her. Shirley was often busy with gardening, camping, golfing, reading, sewing, sudokos, crosswords, cards, attending concerts and spending time with family. She enjoyed all sports her children and grandchildren participated in including basketball, hockey, soccer and quad racing. Shirley belonged to a group of ladies called the Six Belles; a woman’s group that did everything together including bus tours, camping, sleep overs, dinners and countless games of cards. Shirley especially enjoyed holidays, family reunions and her 70th Birthday party. She was particularily proud of the fact that she went back to school at the age of 36 and received her high school diploma. Shirley’s memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of her children, Jim Elgie (Cheryl Higgins), Gord Elgie (Marsha Neigum), Lori (TJ) Yarrow; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; siblings, Laverne (Dave) Sawatzky, Jean Ahlstrom, Sharon Kerkhoff, Millie Archer (Henry Jurgens); sisters-in-law, Marion (Bill) Beetstra, Pat Miller, Evelyn (Marcus) Coneys, Shirley (Paul) Gow, Judy Elgie and brother-in-law, Cliff Elgie as well as numerous nieces, nephews and best friend, Patty Franzen. WYLLIE

Carol Bridget Wyllie passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019, at the age of 70 years, beloved wife of Ian Wyllie of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory three children, Patrick Wyllie (fiancé Kara Seebeck), Tara Wyllie (Jason Silcher), Shane Wyllie (fiancé Cori Bolig); six grandchildren, Domonic, Blake, Skylar, Mattea, Karter and Aryanna; one sister Margaret Woolsey as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and John Thiessen, one brother Gary Thiessen and one sister Patricia Eld. Carol met Ian in 1978 while he was employed with the British Army. They fell in love and married 19 days later. Carol moved to England for over two years and they had their first child there. In 1981, they returned to Canada and had two more children. Mom was a social butterfly, loved working with the public, and spent many years employed at the bingo hall. She also spent a lot of time volunteering for various organizations. Mom had a sense of humor and loved to laugh. She loved her Irish music and movies. Mom had a huge heart and opened up her home to many people throughout the years; becoming a second mom to many teenagers and taking in any stray cat that crossed her lawn. Carol was proud of her children and was thrilled to be a grandmother, as her family were her pride and joy. Mom touched the lives of those she knew and she will be missed by many. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. with Deacon Terry Olson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
