1950 ~ BRIAN KEMP ~ 2018

Brian John Kemp, beloved husband of Darlene Kemp of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, December 19th, 2018 at the age of 68 years. Brian also leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Robert Kemp, Ronald (Lorrisa) Kemp and Michael (Courtney) Kemp; one daughter, Nicole Petersen (Kendell Cornell); eight grandchildren, Skylar Pizzey, Dexter Pizzey, Dakota Pizzey, Deidra Kemp, Shayanne Petersen, Taylor Petersen, Lauren Kemp and Ashley Kemp; five brothers, Wayne (Marge) Kemp, Donald Kemp, Doug Kemp, Gary Kemp and Gerald Kemp; two sisters, Darlene Kemp and Bonnie (Neil) Hagley; two brothers-in-law, Keith (Cindy) Traxel and Norman (Jerolyn) Traxel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Sarah Kemp; his father and mother-in-law, Adam and Adelia Traxel; one brother-in-law, Gordon Traxel; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Lipsac and Gail Kemp. Brian was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on January 6th, 1950. He attended various schools in Saskatchewan. Brian married Joan Sheard in 1967 and together they had 3 boys, Robert, Ronald and Michael. He moved to Medicine Hat in 1972 where he worked at various construction companies and CFB Suffield as a contractor. In 1979, Brian married Darlene Traxel, enhancing the family with a daughter, Nicole. After 24 years at CFB Suffield, Brian retired in 2011 where he had more time to travel with Darlene and enjoy his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed carpentry, restoring old vehicles and was known by those who knew and loved him as a practical joker. 1953 ~ JON TEYNOR ~ 2018

Mr. Jon Denis Teynor of Medicine Hat passed away on Tuesday, December 11th, 2018 at the age of 65 years. Jon leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Trudy Kazokas; two brothers, Wayne (Janette) and Wally; five sisters, Linda (Rod), Peggy (Dave), Gayle (Ronnie), Marge (Marvin) and Joan (Gary); as well numerous nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers. Jon was predeceased by his father, Clarence Teynor. Jon was born on October 10th, 1953 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He had two passions, his job as a Paver and music, except country and Christmas music! Jon was always willing to help any friend in any way possible. He was known by his friends and family as a comedian and a sports fan; especially the Green Bay Packers and Boston Bruins. BECKER, Peter Bernard

September 21, 1930 – December 14, 2018

Peter passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. He was born in Moose Jaw, SK but lived most of his life in Medicine Hat. Although moving to Calgary in 2014 at the persuasion of his daughter Corinne and son Kelly, his home of heart remained in Medicine Hat. Peter was predeceased by his wife Eileen of 64 years and is survived by his 3 children: Corinne (Ross), Don (Eileen), Kelly (Roxanne); his grandchildren Krista (Erick), Stacy, Jennifer (Chris), Matthew, Stephanie, Nicole and his great granddaughter Kate. Pete worked for CP Rail for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He continued to connect with the railroad through his son Don, a now retired CP Rail engineer, and had a passion for anything related to trains. A private Graveside Service for immediate family will be held at Mountain View Funeral home in Calgary where he will once again be joined with his wife Eileen. Esdela Herman, beloved wife of the late Wilbert Herman, passed away peacefully at the Riverview Care Centre in Medicine Hat, on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the age of 94 years. Esdela was a gentle, kind, loving mother who will be missed by all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her daughters, Beverley (Lenard) Stroh, Peggy Breakell (Joe Weisgerber) and Donna Jacober; grandchildren, Sheila, Karla (Gary), Brandi, Byron (Carrie), Darcy (Lisa), Darren (Carole), Doug (Karen), Lori (John); ten great- grandchildren, Abbi, Jake, Nate, Gage, Sara, Jaylin, Tyler, Ashley, Liz, and Teagan. Esdela was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert (2001); grandson, Blair Stroh (2017); sons-in-law, Ronald Draudson, Ron Breakell, Kenneth Zeller and Harvey Jacober. 1954 ~ 2018
Mr. Larry Douglas Starner of Seven Persons, beloved husband of Janet, passed away peacefully at his residence while surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at the age of 64 years. Along with Janet, left to cherish Larry’s memory are his children: Jason Starner (Samantha MacBean), William Starner (Alisha Bakanec), Matthew Starner (Dorian Gomez) and Jacey Kessler (Logan Kessler). His memory will also live on in the hearts of his grandchildren, Skyland, Michael, Autumn, Azreal, Jordyn, Pyriel, Journey and another expected granddaughter to be born this February who helped Larry hold on as long as he could in anticipation of her arrival; great- grandchildren, Noah and Anna, as well as numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Helen Starner as well as a son, Jeremy Starner. Family wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff on 4 West for caring for Larry during his stay in hospital as well as the Palliative Care team. SCHLENKER


Betty Schlenker passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018, at the age of 81 years, beloved wife of Jim Schlenker for 63 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory their children, Brent (Dyanne) Schlenker, Sheila-Rae (Robert) Schmunk, and Tracy (Calvin) Heller; her grandchildren, Brad Schlenker (Aimee) and his children Clayton and Evyn; Jason Ruff and his children Victoria, Ceilidh and Grady; Darryl (Anna) Ruff and their children Madison and Dylan; James (Susanne) Schmunk and their children Declan and Roman; Kelly (Michael) Sehn and their children Eden and Katie-lee; Nicole (Branden) Blomme; Mitch Heller (Brittany); and Mason Heller; her brother, Leonard Aman; her sisters, Doreen (Harvey) Pudwell, Marnie “Belle” Sturm, Phyllis (Eric) Snow, and Carol (Dave) Hicks as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Phillip and Rose Aman; her brother, Roy; her sisters, Jean Irwin, Rosemarie (Ron) Goehring; as well as her eldest grandson, Boyd Schlenker. Betty was born and raised north of Irvine Alberta; she was one of nine siblings on the family farm. Betty received her education at Irvine school and as a young woman she moved to Medicine Hat to work at a local clothing store. Soon after, she met her sweetheart at a dance in Walsh and three kisses later they were married on June 30, 1955. Jim and Betty resided in Walsh where they owned and operated a feedlot and general trucking operation. It is here where they welcomed their three children, Brent, Sheila-Rae, and Tracy. In the spring of 1964, Betty encouraged Jim to pursue his dream of becoming an Auctioneer, thus starting a 50 year family journey conducting numerous auctions throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan as Schlenker Auction Service Ltd. A short time later, opportunities arose and a partnership was formed with the MacArthur family where they built, owned and operated Hat Livestock Auction Ltd. in Medicine Hat while continuing with Schlenker Auction Service. Betty was invaluable in the businesses; she assumed many of the responsibilities behind the scenes while providing expertise as clerk and cashier on sale days. Betty enjoyed curling and was a member of the Medicine Hat Curling Club, she competed at numerous Bonspiels throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She thoroughly enjoyed spending her time with family and friends around a great home cooked meal. She also enjoyed travelling, camping, fishing, crafting, playing a competitive game of cards or betting on a curling game. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy as they put warmth in her heart and joy in her day! The funeral service will be held in the Cypress Centre Auditorium (2055 21st Ave SE) on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus officiating.
