HIRSCH
Carol “Fern” Hirsch passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the age of 72 years, beloved wife of Norman Hirsch of Medicine Hat. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. LEONARD SCHERGER
October 10, 1935 ~ November 24, 2018
Leonard Scherger went home to meet his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, November 24, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Brenda (Rene) Wagner and their children, Allison and Waylon; Carol (Russell) Sutton and their son, Emery; Verna (Mitch) Batten and their children, Faith and Laine. He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Wilfred (Dawn) Scherger and their children, Ryan and Stephanie; Ron (Doreen) Scherger and their daughter, Shantel; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters as well as his companion, Joyce Mastel. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian in 1998; grandson, Trevor in 2015; parents, Joseph and Margaret Scherger as well as five brothers and two sisters. Leonard was born on October 10, 1935 on the Scherger farm. He married Lillian Kuss on June 4, 1957. They lived on the Scherger farm until they retired to Medicine Hat in June of 1987. Leonard’s passion was farming with his sons. He enjoyed riding motorbike, fishing, boating, dancing, bowling, golfing, curling, swimming, going for coffee, riding bicycle and especially taking his dog Blackie on runs with his scooter. He will be remembered for his friendly personality and his determination to make the most of every day. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Funeral Home starting one hour prior to Vigil Prayers and also at the Church starting one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Interment following at Hillside Cemetery. Caroline Ann Muhlbeier of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the age of 73 years. YIZEK
Bruno Norbert Yizek of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital with the love and support of his family on Thursday November 22, 2018, at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of the late Emma Yizek.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Danielle Beach (Ken Nielson); Darvil Lacher; four grandchildren; Danica (Hal), Dayna, Kolbi (Madison), Reid; one sister, Steva Hougen; son-in-law Richard (Suzie) Weitz; his very special friend Bonnie Kramer; a niece and nephew, Frances (Ken) King, Darrell (Karen) Hougen and families.
He was predeceased by his parents Maria and Michal Yizek, his wife, Emma (January 22, 2011); and his daughter Daphne; and one sister Annie.
Bruno was born on the family homestead on September 21, 1934 in Pakowki, Alberta to Maria and Michal Yizek. Bruno’s father Michal immigrated from Russia and his mother Maria immigrated from Poland to settle in the Pakowki area. Bruno was the youngest of three children. His older sisters Steva and Annie thought the world of their younger brother. At the young age of five Bruno’s father passed away and he very quickly had to learn the ropes of farming and ranching through the hard work of his mother. Bruno attended school in Orion, Alberta. He also enjoyed playing and coaching baseball where he gained much respect from his players and the community. Bruno also loved spending time with his niece and nephews. Uncle Bruno always made special occasions a time to remember. Bruno eventually took over the family farm and it was during this time that he developed a love for ranching. You could often catch up with Bruno at cattle auctions. Those auctions would frequently take him to Medicine Hat where he caught the eye of his soon to be wife Emma Lacher (Glass). Bruno and Emma married on April 12, 1975 and Bruno became an instant father to Daphne, Darvil and Danielle. He soon came to love them as his own. Together, Bruno and Emma continued to farm in the Orion area and loved playing bridge, attending community functions, travelling and of course watching baseball together. They also both drove a school bus to Manyberries School for several years. Those who rode the bus with Bruno will remember his red kerchief and his whistling and singing along to Kenny Rogers songs. In the late 80’s Bruno and Emma moved into Medicine Hat where Bruno continued to commute to and from the farm. Not long after that they were blessed with grandchildren. The grandchildren soon became the absolute focal point of love for them both. Bruno and Emma loved taking care of their grandchildren and enjoyed swimming, riding bikes, playing crib, travelling and making memories with them. They were truly the absolute light of their lives. Bruno took tremendous pride in being able to watch them play sports such as baseball, volleyball and basketball. One of the highlights of his life was being able to watch all four of his grandchildren graduate from high school. There truly was nothing that he wouldn’t do for them. He shared such a loving and special bond with each one of them. In his last days Bruno was able to spend time with those around him that he loved. Bruno will be remembered for his sense of humor, his charm, his humility and his dedication to his friends. Especially Dennis and Dixie Bohnet and his dear friend Bonnie Kramer. I’m sure that “Cowboy Breakfast” and bridge night at the Veiner Center won’t be the same without him. Bruno touched many lives, and will leave a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him and calling him friend. Rest in Peace Papa Bruno…We will love you forever!
